Potentially The New Cat – First Open Thread 31 July 2021

Hi Cats,

As you can see I have created a copy of the Cat for you to continue to bicker, argue and occasionally make a reasonable point.

I do hope a solution is found with the original Cat but just in case Sinc doesn’t want to transfer the site to a new generation I have built a replica before the closure so we can migrate as many of the community across as possible.

Programming Note: I rushed out the site so there will be bugs. I can get them fixed but did not want perfection to get in the way for progress.

Community Note: Please let as many cats know of the new blog as soon as possible so we can capture the magic of the original. In particular would love for the original posters to continue their great work here.

Ideological Note: I am an infrequent poster but long time reader of the Cat. The discussions there have been a huge part of my own ideological growth on many issues. In particular free speech is key for me so will have a very similar light touch to the original Cat, potentially adopting my one policy on an earlier forum I built: “No D***heads” which is subjective but surprisingly easy to implement.

Website Note: I will run the Cat as close to possible as the original because I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel. However if the community so wants I am happy to make changes to improve the experience so if you have any ideas let me know. For anything specific hit me up at the contact form, else go nuts in the comments.

Misleading analogy. The vaccines have been developed very quickly but not as much as people assume. mRNA technology is nearly 30 years in development. If you have a problem with the speed of development take that up with Trump’s Warp Speed strategy.

“The scientists I spoke to aren’t sure where the “seven or eight years” rule comes from. Most phase-three vaccine trials – that’s the big one you do before you apply to roll it out – follow up volunteers for just 12 months, Jim Buttery, head of signal investigation at Victoria’s immunisation safety service, tells me.”

“Of 57 vaccines approved by the US since 1996, the median safety follow-up was 1½ months. Yet only one had to be withdrawn from the market for safety reasons; at the same time, these vaccines cut the incidence of common viruses such as polio and measles by more than 90 per cent.”

So in an experiment I tossed a bit of meat onto the carport roof near where a currawong was perching. Wham! She knew what Coles mince is, did she ever. Several more lumps of mince and she was a happy new Cafe Bruce customer, although she wouldn’t tolerate me within about 5 m.

She (gender assumption warning) is the second new kookaburra I’ve seen in a week. Another one turned up who was already so acclimatized to humans she allowed me to hand feed her on the back fence the very first time.

Scummo finally speaking up about free speech….

“Christensen free to speak mind on masks: PM

Scott Morrison has defended Nationals MP George Christensen’s “right to free speech” amid allegations he is “undermining” public health measures.

While responding to a question from Macarthur MP Mike Freelander, which cited comments by Mr Christensen saying Covid mask mandates is an “insanity”, the Prime Minister said he didn’t share the views of the Dawson MP, but defended his ability to speak his mind.

“I have been very clear about that but I tell you what, in this country people have a right to free speech. They do. They do have a right to free speech in this country and that is not something that the government is seeking to clamp down on,” Mr Morrison told Question Time on Wednesday afternoon.

Moments before, Mr Christensen had been flaunting requests by speaker Tony Smith for all members to wear face masks while in the chamber. After being alerted to this by Labor, Mr Smith asked the Dawson MP to respect the statement he made on Tuesday.

Mr Morrison then turned his attention to Labor’s preselection of outspoken AstraZeneca critic Michelle Anada-Rajah in the seat of Higgins. He accused Labor of “setting the standard”, talking down the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“The leader of the Labor Party should take the example of the former leader of the Labor Party who’s happy to get out there and support the CSL workers who are out there making those AstraZeneca vaccines that the leader of the Labor Party seems to be crab walking away from,” he said.”

Pity Scummo didn’t say the same back in February when progressive SCUM attacked Craig Kelly and Scummo fell hook, line and sinker for it and sided with the left against Kelly. But it’s amazing how you can suddenly find some principles when you only have a one seat majority. I suppose better late than never.

M0nty has said he’s going to ban antisemitic whackos. I approve this message. Not because they are antisemitic, but because they are whackos. I would be quite happy if Bird were to try to make a case for his ideas, then we could all point out why he’s talking crap. But he continually begs the question.

I know that, but you are simply repeating yourself without answering my perceptive point.

Typical bullshit from you, you absolute fraud with an air of total sanctimony lingering about you every attack on me. Perhaps you’d better watch your own back before having a go at mine. Adam has replied to my email of concern, likely as he is replying to similar ones from others, and is contemplating the best way to proceed. That’ll do me for now.

M0nty is projecting of course since the overwhelming proportion of antisemites are lefties. But gaslighting is a lefty core ability like projection is, so I don’t think he can help himself.

Look, I like monty’s effort, but a liberal cannot be left to curate a cultural and political blog of the Right. Moderating the Open Forum is not the same as selecting writers or topics to be discussed, etc. People need to be clear about what they want beyond the Open Forum. Also, the precis monty has in the intro invites us to return to 2003 Australia as if nothing has happened politically, intellectually, and culturally since then; a sort of return to innocence. But, alas, there is no going back. What has been seen and witnessed cannot be unseen and denied. I can understand why some libertarians, liberals, and institutionalists might be unhappy with this turn but there it is.

I’m guessing that once Novavax is certified, Pfizer, J&J, Moderna & AZ are gone. Simply because it is not an mRNA vaccine – and more like the usual Flu one.

I’m guessing that the games the pharmas will play will lead to as much delay of Novavax as possible … so that people can be forced to take the third jab.

How could that possibly be Vicki? We knew how to cure Covid right from the start. Any new drug or new study is just another stalling tactic, in their campaign of ruthless treatment denial. “”

I disagree vehemently with much of what Mushroom has to say but this is 100% correct. Isn’t there a crime called Negligent Homicide? Murder in other words. How many of those who have died would still be alive if they had been treated with known therapeutics, especially early on. And that’s not even counting the many deaths and disabilities caused by the vaccines themselves which, we have been told, already outnumber every other vaccine event since records have been kept.

Yeah well I’m not allowed to have Pfizer, plus I have a deeply held religious conscientious objection to AZ. And GPs are afraid to prescribe ivermectin or HCQ in case they get booted off Medicare. So I’m stuffed then. Thanks ScoMo.
