Here’s the PM today. Time to rename the governing party to the Tyranny Party

Scott Morrison backs vaccine passports, saying businesses have right to refuse entry (msn.com)

The Australian prime minister, Scott Morrison, has thrown his support behind the use of vaccine passports, saying the concept is sensible and has “nothing to do with ideology”.

Despite internal resistance within the Coalition over the use of Covid vaccination certificates for things such as travel and major events, Morrison said any business had a “legitimate” right to refuse entry to someone who had refused to get vaccinated.

The government has backed the use of a QR code-style vaccination pass that would verify a person’s vaccination status using information from the Australian Immunisation Register. The type of pass is often referred to as a vaccine passport.

“A business under property law has the ability to say ‘no, you can’t come in’, and they can ask for that [proof of vaccination], that’s a legitimate thing for them to do, and they’re doing that to protect their own workers, to protect their other clients,” Morrison told 2GB radio on Wednesday.

“It’s got nothing to do with ideology, and these issues around liberty and so on. We all believe in freedom, but we also believe in people being healthy.

“The sheer fact of it is, if you’re not vaccinated, you represent a greater public health risk to yourself, to your family, to your community and others about you, so it’s only sensible that people will do sensible things to protect their public health.”

    _________________________________________________________

In answer to a letter I wrote to the PM, last week I received this one in reply:

‘Thank you for writing to me about your concerns regarding the use of a COVID-19 vaccination certificate as proof of a person’s vaccination status.

The Commonwealth and state and territory governments are committed to keeping Australia open, and have been working collaboratively to contain the spread of COVID-19 and minimise disruption to the community.

Vaccines will play an essential role to ensure Australia is protected against the ongoing risk of COVID-19 as the economy reopens.

Because of the evidence of the ability of vaccines to prevent transmission of COVID 19, we have an opportunity to further consider safely relaxing restrictions once high rates of vaccination are achieved.

This will require us to reassure the community that people are fully vaccinated.
To support verification of vaccination status, Services Australia has developed a COVID-19 digital certificate for people who have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The digital certificate is available now through myGov, Medicare online or from your
immunisation provider. It is not a “passport”. It is a formal reward of your vaccination*.

While we want to achieve the highest rate of vaccination possible, it will not be compulsory to have the vaccine. The Government is clear that vaccination is a personal choice – options to verify a person’s vaccination status will not change this position.

Thank you again for writing to me.’

    __________________________________________________________

‘It’s not a “passport.”  It’s a formal reward of your vaccination. While we want to achieve the highest rate of vaccination possible, it will not be compulsory to have the vaccine. The Government is clear that vaccination is a personal choice – options to verify a person’s vaccination status will not change this position.’

How does that statement reconcile with:

“A business under property law has the ability to say ‘no, you can’t come in’…”

    _________________________________________________________

The reward sounds very much like a chimera, thereby creating further economic uncertainty, especially for small business.  If the business does not supply to an unvaccinated customer or one who refuses to reveal their vaccination status, other businesses will take the trade, especially in these current economic difficulties.

So, in “flying the government’s flag,” a business presses the customer for their private health information, leading maybe to a  risk of a claim of discrimination; especially if there’s a member of a minority group in the party – who’s to say they weren’t denied service because one of them was black/alphabet/a midget?

Everyone else claims health confidentiality under privacy laws or wants to know whether anyone in the establishment has a communicable disease themselves.  What’s the business’s real legal position if all it’s relying on is property rights?

This is a further abrogation of government responsibility for this debacle.

Actually, it reminds me of what politicians do in an election campaign – say one thing to one cohort of electors and the opposite to another group of them.  (Labor’s message on coal in 2019).

I do want it to work; I’d prefer not to leave. Any thoughts?

BBS, with any software programs, there are always bugs lurking beneath the surface. Microsoft with all its nerd power and billions cannot manage bug-free products and updates.

We know that there were major problems in Cat2 and that it was not working too well. While Sinc was the blog administrator, Jacques was managing the back-end: bugs, problems, updates.

Bruce of Ncl has mentioned  a few times that there are issues with WordPress on a number of other sites, too.

This Cat3 is not yet a month old. The blog has inherited a legacy software program and all the bugs that go with it. If you take a look at the website, there are updates taking place. The problem, often, is that resolving one issue results in another part breaking up.

For me, this is a blog that I can visit and comment on, when I have the time. Sure, there are a few problems when posting comments. It does not have nice, shiny buttons to help with formatting and we can’t preview our comments the way we did in Cat2. But I have tested a bit, and come up with workarounds. It takes a bit longer to write and post a comment. So what? (Those posting comments via phone need to find a temporary way around the line spacing issues.  Shift+Enter instead of just Enter???)

Are we prepared to give this site a fair go? Enough time for the owner, and some effort on our part to make this work?

The pros outweigh the cons. The layout and navigation is simple and easy. I prefer substance and content, over glamour and glitter. If we get some pretty buttons as well, that would be a bonus. ^.^

I wonder if PM Morrison has thought this through.  This may be his way of forcing vaccinations, ie, people afraid they won’t be able to obtain essentials, perhaps not even accepted into a petrol station.  The fear of the unvaccinated might become manically stupid.

This seems  a very troubling turn of events.

According to this clinical trials study report, the Pfizer vaccine clinical trials were supposed to be for 3 years (April  2020 – May 2023). This Study Record was last updated in 5 August 2021, and shows the 3-year study design.

    《Actual Study Start Date : April 29, 2020

Estimated Primary Completion Date : May 2, 2023

Estimated Study Completion Date : May 2, 2023》

Yet, on 23 August 2021 it gets full licensure from the FDA. Instead of requiring three years to be fully certified for use, it seems the FDA thinks that sixteen months is good enough.

In the past, the tried and tested vaccines took between five to seven years for approval. Today, it needs just sixteen months. At this rate, the next virus vaccine will get the full approval stamp in sixteen weeks.

It is all about your health. They really do care.

Now – Kamala wants the job and wants it bad.   But just not right now.  So we have three teams, team J&J Biden (Joe & Jill) who want to hold on at all costs as removal exposes them to the law (and not just their own f**ckups – but Hunter’s); We have team Kameltoe who don’t want to inherit the baggage of COVID, Afghanistan, Border, Inflation and more; and some “saner” types – who don’t want either, but realise that if they get rid of both Joe and Kamala -> here comes Nancy!  [Maybe Nancy is a fourth team… her and Hilarity are BFFs!]

Who wins out of the above.  Tricky!  I reckon Kamala will … simply because everyone will be fighting to keep Joe in as a lesser of all evils – but the Nov 2022 election will be disaster for the Dems [the cheating will not be enough and will be all too obvious so Joe will just have to take the fall!]

He is badly advised. Clearly, overseas evidence is that “vaccination” does not prevent transmission of the virus to others – therefore a vaccinated person does not present nil risk of being re-infected, or of infecting others. Both vaccinated & unvaccinated present with similar amounts of titres in nasal passages.

Morrison has completely lost the plot. He has backed himself into a corner in trying to double guess the community’s fear of COVID. It will not win him the next election. But far worse – it will cause a cleavage of betrayal in the community that can never be repaired.

The Victorian Government has warned of penalties of up to $21,808 (for individuals) and $109,044 (for businesses) for employers who issue worker permits to authorised employees who do not meet the requirements of the worker permit scheme or who otherwise breach the scheme requirements.

There will also be on-the-spot fines of up to $1,817 (for individuals) and up to $10,904 (for businesses) for anyone who breaches the scheme requirements. This includes employers and employees who do not carry their worker permit when travelling to and from work.

kaysee, sorry, I wasn’t as clear as I should have been.  I didn’t mean that I am in any way impatient about the lack of button thingies.  I was mostly thinking that over the last few days it was looking like the catallaxian clowder here was drifting away.  But we seem to have got our mojo back today.

For the good of the country, and freedom and liberty, I wish these other centre-right parties, will set aside their own political ambitions, find common ground and work together for just this one election and term.

Agree on freedom and liberty. That automatically includes free speech, freedom of choice, freedom of religion, no lockdowns, no mandatory vaccinations/vaxx cards., respect for the right to privacy, so no QR codes.

Unite on these points instead of splitting the votes.  That gives them a chance of picking seats.

    *******

Splitting the vote needn’t be a problem in a system with compulsory exhaustive preferential voting, as long as they do the “preference whispering” thing by all favouring each other over anyone else.

Malcolm Roberts totally on point over the whole Covid “crisis”.  This should be spread far and wide.  I have never heard a more cogent and comprehensive denouncement of what is happening here.  He does not hold back on any front and he gets it all said in less than 5 minutes.

Mole, the other half received a communication from his union advising that it would not support mandatory vaccination in the sector nor would it support individual employers or employer associations to push/introduce mandatory vaccinations.  Especially reassuring was reference to the legal rights and responsibilities of employers and employees having not been made clear.

‘We need help’: Shepparton locals struggle to get groceries as coronavirus crisis deepens
Independent Shepparton MP Suzanna Sheed said: “The situation in Shepparton is a crisis and the mood is very anxious.”

“For a town that would normally pull together we simply don’t have the resources now. So we need the army, we need people driving trucks and distributing all the goods through the town. We need the army in our supermarket to be doing the unloading of trucks, the packing of parcels for home delivery and the delivery of the groceries.”

Your vaccine certificate might expire Some countries are putting a timestamp on how long ago you were vaccinated and if you can visit. Austria won’t accept certificates from UK travellers who received their second doses more than 270 days ago

LONDON — Supply constraints are weighing on Britain’s economy with several big-name firms announcing they have run out of stock on particular items.

McDonald’s on Tuesday said it had ran out of milkshakes across the country. The U.S. fast food giant has also been deprived of some bottled beverages throughout its 1,250 British outlets this week.

Last week, popular chicken chain Nando’s was forced to close around 50 restaurants across Britain due to poultry shortages, while KFC has also been unable to provide some menu items in recent weeks.

The supply chain struggles are being widely attributed to a lack of truck drivers, caused by a confluence of new post-Brexit EU immigration rules, Covid-19 measures and self-isolation guidance.

‘Come on, pussies! HAVE A GO!’

So said  the police, not a protester.

A puny and disgusting  provocation by those who serve the people.

To which one protester responded,  ‘Fuck! He’s  got a gun.’

And so, with the the vanguard shot with plastic bullets  and attacked with pepper sprays, the protesters as a whole simply turned marched in the opposite direction.
