This week, I finally started on a long pending, real life project. There is plenty to do and it will take a while, but at least now it has moved from the back-burner to a work-in-progress.

I have dozens of links to sites saved in my bookmarks folder. Some of them I check daily, others occasionally. These sites provide me with the news items that I post in the comments on the blog.

    Two points:

a/Some of you have shared that you don’t have anything to post. In my rant earlier this week, I offered some suggestions. If you are genuinely interested in active participation in this blog – where we are mostly sharing and discussing news items – I have thought out a solution. I have picked out a few links to sites. You can bookmark some of the links posted below and check them out if and when you want to take part.

The sites will have current news, latest news, general news, nice-to-know news and, in the case of MSM , some fake news (which is good for us to be aware of).

b/ Like a few others here, I follow the policy of “Post and Go”. If I have something to post, I post it and leave it for the audience. I don’t worry about what others will think about it or whether they will read what I have posted or whether they will reply to my comments. My part is to share what I am learning – that’s all.

The wolf no longer in sheep’s clothing

Does Albanese accept that he is leading an activist, interventionist government, enlarging its reach across society, the environment and the economy – cloaked in a traditional, process-driven approach that is masking how significant these changes really are? “Yeah, I do,” he responds, leaning forward. Does he see himself leading an ambitious, reformist government? “I want to change Australia for the better,” he replies. “We live in an economy and a society that is increasingly globalised … with new technology the pace of change is faster today than it was 10 years ago, and that was faster than it was 20 years ago … so, you need government to be prepared to do things and to lead.” Warming to his theme, Albanese adds: “We [are] aimed at transformative reforms.” Is this what he believes Labor governments should always do? Is it also in Albanese’s DNA that governments should seek to change the country significantly and change lives too? “Absolutely,” he responds. To be sure, he has lived it. The Albanese story – growing up in public housing with his mother, Maryanne, on a disability pension – is well told. He knows what governments can do. “I want to make a difference each and every day,” he says. It’s perfect timing for Albanese. He knows that there is, post GFC and pandemic, an appetite for a bigger government role in the economy and society for those caught in the trap of intergenerational inequality and prolonged low wage growth.

Behind the pay-wall – what is in store for Australian taxpayers.

Treaty deals between Aboriginal Australians and state governments are likely to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars apiece and factor in the number of Indigenous people killed in historic local massacres, as Queensland looks to New Zealand and Canadian agreements to guide its new reconciliation laws.

Days after passing a treaty process touted as “setting the standard” in Indigenous-government relations, Queensland cabinet minister Craig Crawford told The Australian the amount of land taken by British colonial forces and the impact of massacres could be key considerations in formulating the value of each deal made with local Aboriginal groups.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnership Minister’s comments come as Victoria and NSW pursue their own treaties with local Indigenous groups, while the federal government has committed to enacting the Uluru Statement of the Heart in full – from enshrining an Indigenous voice to parliament to pursuing treaty-making and truth-telling.

While it was “very hard” to give an exact estimation of the cost of future treaties, Mr Crawford said about 80 of the treaty settlements that had been finalised in New Zealand “nearly all cost tens or hundreds of millions of dollars” and the cost varied depending on the number of people killed and the amount of land taken by colonial forces in each area.

“So I think that will give us a bit of a guide to get an idea as to what that looks like in a Queensland context,” he told The Australian.

“But it depends on things like the level of impact that occurred in that particular part of New Zealand, what the history record shows, the level of massacres, the amount of land that they’ve lost.

UK set to give more aid to Ukraine as Zelenskyy visits Britain

Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has welcomed his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy to his countryside residence in a surprise visit by the president.

The British government is expected to “confirm the further U.K. provision of hundreds of air defence missiles and further unmanned aerial systems including hundreds of new long-range attack drones with a range of over 200km,” or 124 miles.

“These will all be delivered over the coming months as Ukraine prepares to intensify its resistance to the ongoing Russian invasion,” Downing Street said in a statement.

During their meeting today at the prime minister’s official countryside residence Chequers, Sunak will discuss with Zelenskyy what support Ukraine needs from the international community, both in terms of immediate military equipment and long-term defenses, the government said.

Zelenskyy’s trip to today comes after the Ukrainian president’s tour of several European capitals in recent days as he tries to win more military support ahead of the country’s much-vaunted counteroffensive in Ukraine.

You know those depleted uranium tank shells the United Kingdom sent to Ukraine? Reports say that Russian missiles blew them up this weekend. Footage of huge explosions near the city of Khmelnytskyi show that Russia targeted ammunition stores in advance of the “planned counteroffensive.” The mayor of that city reported that the city itself was not targeted but that buildings were damaged by the blasts and at least 21 people were injured. The military administration in that region confirmed that “critical infrastructure” had been hit by at least four Russian drones. Blowing up uranium is a biological hazard. The UK was warned about this but chose to send these weapons anyway.
Now Germany has committed another $2.9 billion in arms for Ukraine and Zelensky has indicated he will not give up power and hold elections as long as his war powers are in place. Which could be forever.

In the end you have to choose to believe, or not, alleged victims, damaged individuals, relatives of victims, police, suspects, persons of interest and it’s not easy but the scale of child procurement from institutions and off the street and the grooming in high level, expensive establishments would indicate a lot of employees have turned a blind eye to what was under their nose and many complicit.

With all his resources, Elon was not able to check the credentials of his pick for CEO? He promised free speech at all costs. He criticised WEF.

Yet he picks someone who is pro-vaxx, pro-censorship, pro-wokeism.

    ……

Did he make a mistake or was this his intention, all along? Or has he been pressurised into doing this?

Anyone critical of the new CEO or making a joke at her expense is having their accounts suspended or permanently suspended?

Linda Yaccarino hasn’t even started yet but is already blocking accounts.

    Free Speech at Twitter. Yay.

We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.

Hungarian media is abuzz with angry reactions after a leak obtained by The Washington Post revealed that Ukraine was planning to blow up the Druzhba oil pipeline that transports crude from Russia to Hungary.

According to the leaked documents, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed at a February meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenko that Ukraine should blow up the pipeline in order to incapacitate the part of the Hungarian energy infrastructure reliant on Russian oil.

Joe Biden scraps long-awaited Australia trip

After refusing to speak to Republicans for 90 or so days, Biden has discovered they have not blinked. The conditions for a debt ceiling hike include axing funding for the increased number of IRS agents (the actual number is disputed – varying from 87000 to 20000) as well as some of the feel good enrichment schemes. Biden is bleating that Medicaid and Veterans funding is threatened.

If the Republicans back down now, they are not worth saving.

US pressuring Japan to accept times have changed

I lived in Japan for some years from 1970. Public bathhouses are part of the social routine and prior to 1945 were mixed. Japanese manners are such that if you do not want to be looked at, you will not be seen. The US soldiers were amazed that the sexes bathed together and it became a tourist attraction to the point where the Japanese segregated the sexes. However there is always a bathhouse manager who presides over the amenities and has full view of both sections.

Whilst in Japan I did frequently overhear foreigners (mostly American, Canadian, Australian) holding forth on their views on Japanese custom and society. On one occasion a Canadian (probably around 50 years) was holding forth on a Canadian way of thinking that Japanese should adopt. He had a rapt audience of my Japanese friends. I did ask one afterwards why they had not challenged anything. The answer was “If it made the Canadian happy to say these things, what did it matter?”
If a Japanese is truly unhappy, he decides the foreigner is incapable of correct behaviour and responds by treating him to “stone-face” and does not communicate at all.

    Russian tit-for-tat…

A few days ago the Mayor of Kiev claimed that their US supplied Patriot air defence system shot down a hypersonic Russian missile. The chief of the Ukrainian air defence network said that the claim was false and that they had nothing capable of hitting the Russian hypersonic missiles.

Nevertheless, the Pentagon jumped in and repeated the Kiev Mayor’s false claim and said that it was true.

Russia responded last night with a hypersonic missile targeting the Patriot air defence system in Kiev. The (US?) operators fired 32 missiles at the Russian missile, each of which costs $5 million, and they couldn’t hit it. The Russian missile found them though.

Windows Updates locked my system; I couldn’t repair the necessary system files because of a pending update, & I couldn’t rollback the update because it hadn’t completed installing. Rather than spend hours editing the registry using a boot level application, I opted to format the new drive & re-install from scratch- this time, turning off windows auto-update.

Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the daily cartoons- normal service should resume shortly.

Woke western, especially American, politicians are tone-deaf to everything but the agenda given to them by their masters. They wouldn’t understand anything as subtle as “stone-face”. They need to be firmly told that they should keep out of the internal matters in a country. They hold diplomatic postings but have not mastered the basic rules of diplomacy.

Is the American ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Michael Ratney, pressuring that country that times have changed and they should accept qwertyism? Would he dare?

The Japanese ambassador to the US should return the favour and tell Americans what is wrong with them. Instead he is behaving like a professional, a diplomat, and speaking with gratitude of his time in that country.

    Great news

Donald Trump Jr. plans speaking tour in Australia to address controversial topics

Donald Trump Jr. is scheduled to visit Australia this July for a three-city speaking tour.

Known as a prominent voice for uncompromising Trumpism, Trump Jr. aims to discuss the perceived rise of “woke identity politics” and “cancel culture” that he believes have taken hold in Australia.

Organisers of the tour anticipate significant public interest in the events, given Trump Jr.’s polarising reputation and his reputation for taking divisive, anti-politically correct stances. The tour, scheduled from July 9-11, will include appearances in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

Expressing his excitement about returning to Australia, a country he visited during his university years, Trump Jr. shared fond memories of his time backpacking there.

He referred to Australia as a great country with wonderful people, but expressed sadness over what he perceives as negative developments in the nation…
