#BREAKING: Australian Border Force CANCELS the visa and DETAINS tennis player Renata Voracova.

The Czech Republic’s athlete is being held hostage at the same “hotel quarantine facility” as Serbian star Novak Djokovic.

At this point, we best rebrand AO to the Australian Closed.

I don’t think the Czech govt will be too happy either.

In today’s Hun, aka the Harvey Norman Chronicle, Karen Andrews defends the decision to give Djokovic a smackdown:

‘Australians have long prided themselves on a “fair go for all”.
In practice, that means ensuring the same rules apply to everyone – no matter your wealth, fame or where you are from.
This fundamental fairness is what underpins our democracy – and it’s absolutely crucial when it comes to managing Australia’s international border.
Commonwealth border management has been the foundation for ensuring we have one of the lowest death rates from covid-19 in the world. So the Morrison government makes no apologies for setting and enforcing our strong border protection arrangements.
Every single person seeking to enter Australia must comply – no one gets special treatment.
Of course, this has been tough for those with loved ones abroad, which is why we’ve been working to safely reopen the border in a carefully managed to way.
Fully vaccinated Australians have been free to travel again since November 1st last year – providing they meet certain conditions, including a negative PCR test on return to Australia and proof of vaccination.
And since mid – December fully vaccinated eligible visa holders can travel to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption – again, providing they also meet certain entry criteria.
That criteria is pretty simple alongside holding an eligible visa, you must provide evidence of a negative covid-19 PCR test taken within 3 days before your flight’s scheduled departure, you must be fully vaccinated, and you must complete and Australia Travel Declaration – to declare you meet these requirements.
If an arriving individual is not vaccinated, they must provide acceptable proof that they cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. The paperwork required for this medical exemption is not a mystery – it’s spelt out on the Home Affairs website.
If these criteria are not met, then a traveller can expect to be stopped at the border and not allowed into the country.
As we’ve seen, the Australian Border Force continues to ensure that those who arrived at our border comply with our strict border rules. It’s job is to apply the rules to everyone – and the Morrison government will always back it to do that.
That’s the only way we can ensure a fair go for all – especially those Australians and their families who have made sacrifices over the past 2 years in order to abide by the various pandemic rules.’

Despicable, and pretty sure she was the lass who upped the rent on her investment property on the Gold Coast last year. Because fairness. FMD

Sarah Beam has been charged with endangering a child. Cy-Fair ISD Police Department said a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
According to court documents, on Jan. 3, Beam pulled into the drive-thru testing site located at 11355 Falcon Road in northwest Harris County, when a witness reported hearing something in the trunk. The witness said when Beam unlatched the trunk, the boy was found lying down inside.
Court documents said the witnesses told Beam she would not receive a COVID test until the child was removed from the trunk and placed in the back seat of the vehicle. The witness then called police.
Beam allegedly told authorities her son had tested positive for COVID-19 and she was taking him to the site for additional testing. In order to protect herself from being exposed, Beam decided to put the boy in the trunk of the car.’

No person should ever be coerced to engage in an unwanted medical procedure. And while it is bad enough the government violated this basic liberty right by mandating the Covid-19 vaccine, the government also wanted to hide the data by waiting to fully produce what it relied upon to license this product until almost every American alive today is dead. That form of governance is destructive to liberty and antithetical to the openness required in a democratic society.

Novak Djokovic put through six-hour interrogation after trying to enter Australia

Shocking details have emerged of Novak Djokovic’s night of torment when he was taken into custody by Australian Border Force officers amid allegations he was pressured into accepting a notice before he could contact his legal team or Tennis Australia officials.
In a stunning timeline of Djokovic’s arrival to Melbourne on January 6, the world No. 1 tennis player was subjected to questioning over a period of six hours before he was finally afforded the opportunity to sleep.

In documents lodged with the Federal Court, Djokovic’s legal team claim he was woken from his sleep by two supervisors who were pressuring him into accepting their decision to revoke his Visa before he could talk to his legal team or Tennis Australia officials.

Djokovic had requested to wait until he could call someone at Tennis Australia after 8am, which officers initially agreed to, but by 7.42am he was notified of the Purported Decision.

“Over several pages of transcript the supervisor pressured Mr Djokovic to simply continue the interview immediately,” the lawyers wrote in their submission.

“Mr Djokovic, having formed the view that “[they were] going to cancel [his] visa, it’s obvious” relented, feeling he had no choice, and on the basis of an understanding based on what they had said to him that it was better for him if the interview was done right away.

“When one talks in terms of procedural fairness or natural justice, the concern of the law is to avoid practical injustice.

“Within statutory constraints, the Delegate was required to adopt a procedure that was reasonable in the circumstances to afford an opportunity to be heard to Mr Djokovic.

“If the procedure adopted so constrained Mr Djokovic’s opportunity to propound his case as to amount to practical injustice, that would amount to a denial of procedural fairness.

“In an analogous way, Mr Djokovic sought until 08:30 to rest and to speak with his advisers. The Delegate represented to Mr Djokovic that he could have that time. There was no cogent reason for the Delegate to depart from that representation — there was no prejudice to the Respondent in delay for a further few hours, Mr Djokovic’s request was reasonable and based on cogent reasons, and the consequences of a possible cancellation decision were very serious. Yet the Delegate did depart from that representation.”

… How Djokovic went from full clearance to travel to Australia to detainee being holed up in a hotel with refugees will come down to a debate in the Federal Court in Melbourne on Monday.

A hearing set to be seen around the world with a live stream freely accessible for anyone to log in and watch Judge Judy style.

Djokovic had repeatedly claimed his medical exemption had been legitimately granted.

Has mask technology improved since 2003?

    The Editor

Can anyone offer evidence that surgical mask technology has improved dramatically since 2003?

I ask because 18 years ago, during the SARS outbreak scare, the NSW Fair Trading Minister warned of fines up to $110,000 for traders suggesting that “masks offered unrealistic levels of protection from the disease.”

The Sydney Morning Herald, on 27/04/2003 reported, “Health authorities have warned that surgical masks may not be an effective protection against the virus.”

A professor from the University of Sydney’s Department of Infectious Diseases said, “Those masks are only effective so long as they are dry.”

“As soon as they become saturated with the moisture in your breath they stop doing their job and pass on the droplets.”

The SMH reported the professor noting that the mask would need to be changed after as little as 15 or 20 minutes.

The SMH also interviewed a traveller returning from China, who said, “We were told you need 16 layers on your mask for it to offer 95 percent protection.”

So, in the absence of technological improvement in masks, of which there seems to be no evidence, why are people being forced to wear them – other than for obedience training purposes?

    (197 words)

    https://www.smh.com.au/national/farce-mask-its-safe-for-only-20-minutes-20030427-gdgnyo.html
Farce mask: it’s safe for only 20 minutes
    April 27, 2003 — 10.00am

Retailers who cash in on community fears about SARS by exaggerating the health benefits of surgical masks could face fines of up to $110,000.
NSW Fair Trading Minister Reba Meagher yesterday warned that distributors and traders could be prosecuted if it was suggested the masks offered unrealistic levels of protection from the disease.
“I’m sure everyone would agree that it is un-Australian to profiteer from people’s fears and anxieties,” Ms Meagher said.
“There appears to be some debate about whether surgical masks are able to minimise the effects of SARS.”
Ms Meagher said her department would investigate any complaints about false mask claims which concerned the public.
“Penalties can range from fines of up to $22,000 for an individual or $110,000 for a corporation,” she said.
Health authorities have warned that surgical masks may not be an effective protection against the virus.
“Those masks are only effective so long as they are dry,” said Professor Yvonne Cossart of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of Sydney.
“As soon as they become saturated with the moisture in your breath they stop doing their job and pass on the droplets.”
Professor Cossart said that could take as little as 15 or 20 minutes, after which the mask would need to be changed. But those warnings haven’t stopped people snapping up the masks, with retailers reporting they are having trouble keeping up with demand.
John Bell from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, who owns a pharmacy in Woollahra, Sydney, said mask supplies were running low.
“At the moment we don’t have any because we haven’t been able to get any in the last few days,” MrBell said. “In the early stages it was unbelievable; we’d get people coming in all the time.”
Mr Bell agreed with Professor Cossart’s assessment regarding the effectiveness of the masks.
“I think they’re of marginal benefit,” he said. “In a way they give some comfort to people who think they’re doing as much as they can do to prevent the infection.”
That seems to be the mentality of travellers to Asian destinations, who are buying and wearing the masks while overseas.
Rosemary Taylor, of Kirribilli, arrived in Sydney from Shanghai last week after a two-week holiday in China. Ms Taylor and travelling companion Joan Switzer had worn the masks during the trip home, even though they had been warned they were of little value.
“We were told you need 16 layers on your mask for it to offer 95per cent protection,” Ms Taylor said.

Djokovic visa: It’s shame, set and match … and the Djoke is on us

It is not about Novak Djokovic.

Love him or loathe him, the Djoker is one of the greatest tennis champions of all time and the way this country has pushed him from centre court to the federal court in a farcical circus shows us not what winning has done to his character, but what coronavirus has done to ours.

Djokovic was given proof of vaccination exemption from Tennis Australia and Victoria, and applied for and was granted a visa from the federal government. But he spends this weekend in detention, as yet another target for public Covid shaming and political grandstanding.

The Queensland women who went shopping in Melbourne and returned with Covid-19, the footy fans who broke to rules to see Melbourne win the AFL grand final, and the Adelaide teenager who did not head straight home from a nightclub when he received his Covid positive text – we want to take out our virus frustration on people. It is futile, the virus will outlive any of our rules.

Plenty in the community denounce Djokovic, the multi-millionaire Serbian. The public have been conditioned by politicians, hysterical media and even some leading medicos to denounce the unvaccinated as if they are viral-terrorists – infected, dangerous, and deliberately acting as superspreaders.

The reality is that Djokovic is more likely to catch Covid-19 in Melbourne than bring it in – especially given he has already had the virus. Presumably he tested negative before the flight – which is a requirement for all those who travel to Australia.

It is absurd that we are encouraged to treat the unvaccinated as lepers given that more than 90 per cent of our compatriots are vaccinated and the latest virus variant is spreading wildly, mainly via fully vaccinated people.

The unvaccinated are a risk to themselves, not the rest of us.

As a fully vaccinated person, I could care less whether the person next to me is vaccinated or not. But mobs like to identify a bogeyman, and politicians love to fuel such antipathy to justify their power grabs and deflect criticism.

Djokovic, an arrogant and divisive figure, proved too easy a distraction for the Morrison and Andrews governments, media blowhards, the Twitter crowd and large sections of our community who still react to the pandemic virus as if it is Ebola. They cheer his confinement.

The paranoid fear one more infection when we are dealing with more than 70,000 new cases a day. They seemingly resent their own jabs and compliance with the rules and only draw comfort from others being forced to comply.

Many nations, including Israel and right across the EU, provide Covid recovery certificates which effectively replace vaccination certificates and they are recognised for entry to other nations including the US. To the extent that vaccination certificates still might be demanded in this country, they should be mirrored by recovery certificates for those who have derived immunity from the disease itself.

Vaccination status is checked at restaurants and sporting events; we have to show our certificates and negative tests to cross state borders.

We were urged to get vaccinated so we could dispense with this nonsense – yet still we are overwhelmed with onerous and illogical rules and restrictions.

A nation that cleverly and stoically kept the virus largely at bay by imposing international border quarantine is now locked in to a rolling series of confected crises under a never-ending onslaught of emergency powers and inane rules despite more than 90 per cent of our adult population being vaccinated. Now we must rush for the boosters and vaccinate the kids, then perhaps, we are told, the panic will subside, and rules will ease – unless there is another variant, of course, or more misleading media alarm about case numbers.

We are sending healthy nurses and doctors home from hospital because they have been in close proximity to, wait for it, sick people. We are crippling other workplaces with similar precautions, leaving some supermarket shelves empty.

We have overstretched our Covid testing systems by encouraging everyone to get tested; yet the infected are told to go home and take Panadol. We know Covid can kill the vulnerable and unvaccinated, so with strains becoming increasingly mild we ought to focus less on case numbers and more on those who are ill.

This is what medical experts recommend and leaders promise. But their actions defy their words.

Some will not be happy until they ruin another school year or chalk up another $100bn in debt while they punch the pongy air under their doona to celebrate another year of “resilience”.

To keep these people happy, and to make our leaders seem gritty, we reject from this country a Covid-recovered, negative-tested tennis star who was granted a proof of vaccination exemption and a visa.

It is embarrassing for a country once seen as welcoming, rational and easygoing. The rejection of Djokovic – the return of Serb – is not a sensible or science-based approach, except for political science.

There is a school of thought that says no matter his objections, Djokovic has brought this upon himself and could have avoided all of this by getting the jab and following the rules. While it is difficult to comprehend the reluctance of some to accept the protection of vaccination, it is easier to understand in those who have already had the disease.

But when it comes to rules, Djokovic arrived only after being granted exemptions and a visa. He was not to know he would be used as a convenient whipping boy in an ongoing pantomime – a Covid theatre of fear, paranoia and political one upmanship that ensured his case would receive exceptional scrutiny.

So long as we have high vaccination rates and vaccines show limited efficacy in halting infections and transmissions, the unvaccinated imperil themselves and not us. We should not easily trample on their rights, because it sets a bad precedent and demeans our democracy.

Certainly, the rich and famous should not be afforded any special favours, as they infamously were in Queensland, spirited across borders while bereaved Queenslanders or sick southerners were denied. Yet, in those and similar episodes in other states the problem was not the treatment of the stars but that similar common sense was not applied to the rest of us.

There are two reasons the Djokovic case is an abomination. First, he abided by the rules as they were outlined. Second, those rules have become redundant – mandatory testing is sensible to minimise infections in the confined spaces of 14-hour flights, but vaccination status hardly matters now when both our vaccination and infection rates are so high.

For at least a year and a half in these pages I have expressed concerns about this nation going to too far, overreacting on the pandemic and becoming a victim of our own success. The impossible zero-Covid goal infected the nation. Only NSW has shown any propensity to judge costs against benefits before delivering proportionate responses.

Scott Morrison was decisive in closing the borders early and then getting the states to back and implement quarantine. He has often verbalised the right approach but even his innovative national cabinet has not been able to deliver a consistent countrywide response – a co-ordinating meeting, it does not so much impose federal power as expose it limitations.

The Djokovic Djoke shows how the federal government apparatus has been caught up in the same paranoia, crowd-pleasing and disproportionate nonsense that has bedevilled five states.

Having deliberately fuelled fear and anxiety for two years – first to get people to follow the rules, then to justify their actions – the politicians and bureaucrats are now servants to the baying mobs they have created.

Oppositions have been too timid to call it out, preferring to profit from outrage and trepidation. Most media are addicted to Covid catastrophism, drawing eyeballs with hysteria and downplaying or ignoring the social and economic costs.

After quickly closing borders when the virus was rampant and unencumbered by vaccines, then delivering vaccination rates the envy of most of the world, Australia put itself in a position to claim one of the most rational and successful responses to the pandemic.

It was as if we had won the first two sets 6/3, 6/3, and were serving for the match.

But this Australian Open farce shows we have we failed to keep our calm. We have given ourselves the yips and bungled the third set – the one where we were going to learn to live with the virus.

Djokovic first won in Melbourne in 2008 and has kept returning for nine titles in all. Regardless of whether he plays or is returned, he has seen, and shown us, how much we have changed.

Kyrgios says Djokovic will use detention as ‘added fuel’ if able to play Australian Open

If Novak Djokovic wins his court battle on Monday, Nick Kyrgios believes he will play like a man possessed in pursuit of a record-breaking 21st grand slam crown.

Djokovic found an unlikely ally in Kyrgios on Friday, when the Australian star shared his sympathy for the world No. 1 on Twitter.

Speaking ahead of his first match of the summer at the Sydney Tennis Classic, Kyrgios provided insight to Djokovic’s mentality should he be cleared to play at Melbourne Park.

“All I’m saying is, if he’s allowed to play Australian Open, I don’t want any bar of him. I reckon he’s going to be pissed off, very determined to play well and stick it to everyone. I don’t want any bar of that Novak,” Kyrgios said.

“This is just all added fuel for him. In my opinion, we all know how good of a competitor he is. You don’t become a great champion like that without being able to overcome adversity like this.

“I’m sure he’s overcome a lot more challenging times than spending a couple more extra days in a hotel room. Look, all I’m saying is, he’s going to be dangerous if he’s on court at the Australian Open.

“I don’t want to play him right now, that’s for sure. Someone else can have that task.”

Kyrgios also doubled down on the comments he made on Friday, and took aim at the way media have reported the Djokovic saga.

“I’m Nick Kyrgios, bro, I’m a tennis player. It’s not my job to comment on all of this,” he said.

“Put it this way, I think the media has done a poor, poor job. If someone has an opinion you’re either for or against it. Obviously, it’s a bit of a mess what’s going on, and I just don’t think we’ve gone about it in the right way.

“It’s just too much at this point. I hope it all gets sorted as soon as possible.

“For the sport, we need him here. It’s that simple. He’s one of the most influential sportspeople of all time. For the sport, as I said, if he’s ready and allowed to play, in a way, I think it’s good for our sport with all this attention.”

Kyrgios forecast record television ratings should Djokovic win his legal battle on Monday, and implored Australians to recall the world No. 1 going out of his way to help raise funds for bushfire relief two years ago.

“I just want it to end. I’m feeling for him now. It’s not really humane, is it, what’s going on?” Kyrgios said. “If this was a normal person, they wouldn’t have to deal with this media side bullshit. His life is probably hard enough as it is. I know what that’s like. I just hope it gets sorted soon.”

Pressed on whether Kyrgios would reach out to Djokovic given the pair’s recent history of verbal barbs, the Australian star conceded the pair are not yet on talking terms despite forming a friendship earlier in his career.

“I don’t know if we’re on talking terms. But that’s the funny thing about me and Novak. We actually used to be friends. We used to practice at events and again, the media has divided us as well,” he said.

“They’ve just blown some of it out of proportion, and now it’s almost made it 30 times worse. Where it was really not that bad.

“I remember Novak was one of the only actual players when I was young that came towards me and said if you ever need anything, feel free to reach out, and I’ll be open to help.

“We practiced together in Rome. I forgot my practice shoes in Rome one day and I ended up playing in Air Force Ones and I actually beat him in a set. But I feel like he’s helped us as well. During the bushfires he was supportive, he was helping us out. We’re so quick to forget.

“He didn’t have to do that. Most athletes wouldn’t do that. They’re selfish, most athletes are. I don’t forget that.

“I could use this as a publicity stunt. I could just agree with the general person and say yeah, this isn’t good. But I don’t think that’s right. I’m using this as a platform to say we have to do better. We have to do better.”

Djokovic found another Australian ally in Bernard Tomic. Tomic said he considers Djokovic a close friend and a supporter.

“I consider Novak a close friend who has supported me for many years,” Tomic said. “I wish that this situation was handled very differently.

“I do understand the rules are the rules and no is above the rules, and I understand where the government is coming from.

“I hope it all works out very soon for him. He is number one. It’s a shame that the number one player is going to miss out on playing.”

We’ve known HCQ cures Covid for 16 years

    The Editor

We all remember President Trump being vilified in the media in 2020 for saying that hydroxychloroquine successfully treated Covid-19, right?

Well, guess what? He was right. Here’s some extracts from published research from 16 years ago. (Hydroxychloroquine is a milder derivative of chloroquine.)

“Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread – Virol J. 2005 Aug 22;2:69. doi: 10.1186/1743-422X-2-69.

“Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is caused by a newly discovered coronavirus (SARS-CoV). No effective prophylactic or post-exposure therapy is currently available.

“Conclusion: Chloroquine is effective in preventing the spread of SARS CoV in cell culture. Favorable inhibition of virus spread was observed when the cells were either treated with chloroquine prior to or after SARS CoV infection. In addition, the indirect immunofluorescence assay described herein represents a simple and rapid method for screening SARS-CoV antiviral compounds.”

Now, tell me again why everyone must take an experimental vaccine with known severe side effects that include death?

His lawyers said they have written proof Mr Djokovic got the all clear from the Department of Home Affairs, as well as approval from independent medical panels.

They claim the visa was granted without any reference to his vaccination status and that he expressed shock, confusion and disappointment the moment he found out he was not able to enter the country as he believed he met border requirements.
