You People Are Domesticated Animals

Well the first round of changes has been a success on my end. As I have mentioned privately a new business of mine has taken off more than anticipated so my time has been minimal for the cat, and for that I apologise. I have not had a bunch of emails so I am assuming its running fairly smoothly nonetheless.

Anyway you may have noticed some changes:

1. Should have formatting options when posting comments now.

2. Can now flag comments (enough flags will push a comment into moderation which is a good way to get rid of trolls)

3. New commenters are automatically moderated (which will keep trolls and spammers at bay)

4. You can now register on the site so that you don’t have to put in your details every time you comment. This feature will be expanded later on to follow specific threads and the like but for now you can register via the link in the top menu or by clicking here.

To improve the Cat I am looking for more posters and article writers. If you have something to say then send me an email, otherwise if anyone would like to contact prominent people to see if they would like to publish on the Cat I would appreciate any help in growing the site.

Also kaysee and I had a similar idea of adding a wiki section to the cat, somewhere to place useful links, videos and info on important topics. I know I spend way to much time sourcing my points when arguing with people. If you have any thoughts or ideas on the best way to organise such information let me know.

Any other problems list them below and I will continue to do my best.

Good afternoon. Are links outside the google sphere allowed?

3 attempts on the OT with no luck.

    Cheers, Adam.

Congrats on new business and hope it’s successful. And thanks for what you do here. Not sure I’m agreeing to be domesticated, there’s work for wild animals to be done.

    Thanks Adam.

I had been writing a guest post on the costs (massively incalculable) and benefits (zero) of the recent round of bat flu insanity, but have had to can it for the time being given we still have no idea of how much longer this infuriating and utterly unacceptable totalitarian idiocy will continue.

If it ever gets finished, you can be rest assured I’ll seek to have it posted exclusively here.

Well done Adam. Best of luck with continued avian incursions.

    Thank you, Adam,

The Cat has for a long time been one of the very few beacons of sanity in an increasingly irrational & crazy world, so having it continue is priceless, in my opinion at least.

And I think that ‘the other Cat’ over at Dover’s is not a competition; both can complement each other and over time they are sure to find their own special ‘flavour’.

    Thanks again mate.

    Cheers.

I’d like to second John Bayley’s comments above: both the gratitude for your efforts, Adam, and also that D’over Cat is complementary.

I’d like to write more posts, but my forte is military history, and I’m not sure if the readership would be too keen on the traditional economics-politics-science themes being diluted?

Would there be any interest in such occasional posts, or is this not the appropriate forum?

    Oopps, posted too soon.

Of course there is interest here, take no notice of one knocker who specialises on one particular poster.

Definitely, especially with the unfolding disaster in Kabul and why has this happened, some military history is appropriate.

Agree. Lots of crossover, just as it should be. I love both, for different reasons.

If there’s some friendly rivalry…that’s healthy too. Iron sharpens iron.

Thanks for your efforts New Doom. Especially given that you were starting a new business venture at the same time. Dunno how you did it.

And… although I wasn’t the first to comment here on Day 1, I identify as first! 😀

I registered last night and later did a test comment which has been in moderation all day.

Look forward to using the new features if I ever get out of moderation. 🙂

I registered yesterday, and put up a couple of innocuous comments here which went straight into moderation and have now been deleted entirely.

What is going on? Am I registered or not? Why were my comments deleted?

I’d be happy to be domesticated if that meant I’d be able to comment. 🤞 this time it’ll work!

  23. Johanna,

you’re in the Cat’s perpetual loop after registering; I think I’ve finally escaped it after almost two days!

It’s a bit like being Schrödinger’s Cat, you’re neither alive nor dead. Or perhaps a better analogy of what you’re now going through could be the by-line of the films Alien and Aliens – in space no-one can hear you scream.

Hopefully, on this thread, it won’t take too long for you to be passed acceptable 😂.

BBS, I seem to have passed the test, whatever it was. I can now comment without any problems.

I regard myself as one of those who passed through the fire and came out the other side.

It is so much more glamorous than being one of those who survived an IT glitch. 🙂

    Thanks for the feedback.

I’ve started to write about a WWII campaign that is little known. It has morphed into an essay however, which might be tedious to persevere with (for the reader), so the challenge is to strip it back. All going well, I hope Adam will consent to publishing it on the 11th or 12th of September, which are significant dates for the subject.

  28. Hi Adam,

for some reason, whenever I include a link to something the comment disappears. Comments also disappear if there is a reference within the reference and, really oddly, at times if I cut and paste someone’s else comment, which includes their name.

There has been some rather invidious, obsessive stoushing lately but nothing compares to the sheer bloody mindedness of Graeme Bird to wreck this site. What a disgusting idiot.

He must go. I am no IT guy but perhaps he can be blocked from his physical location, phone number, router or metadata.

    Failing that, a restraining order.

Adam, I second Dot’s comment. Graeme is destroying this site.

Commenters have tried to keep him away from the vile and disgusting crap that he always returns to. But nothing works and btw it’s not our job to do it. Get rid of him and stop him from returning.

I also second cohenite; can you open up a new thread? This one is tired out, as are we.
