Hi Cats,
As you can see I have created a copy of the Cat for you to continue to bicker, argue and occasionally make a reasonable point.
I do hope a solution is found with the original Cat but just in case Sinc doesn’t want to transfer the site to a new generation I have built a replica before the closure so we can migrate as many of the community across as possible.
Programming Note: I rushed out the site so there will be bugs. I can get them fixed but did not want perfection to get in the way for progress.
Community Note: Please let as many cats know of the new blog as soon as possible so we can capture the magic of the original. In particular would love for the original posters to continue their great work here.
Ideological Note: I am an infrequent poster but long time reader of the Cat. The discussions there have been a huge part of my own ideological growth on many issues. In particular free speech is key for me so will have a very similar light touch to the original Cat, potentially adopting my one policy on an earlier forum I built: “No D***heads” which is subjective but surprisingly easy to implement.
Website Note: I will run the Cat as close to possible as the original because I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel. However if the community so wants I am happy to make changes to improve the experience so if you have any ideas let me know. For anything specific hit me up at the contact form, else go nuts in the comments.
Now i am back in lockdown can go trouserless at the desk. Like a CNN personality.

Dot, thank you for trying to do something. It gave the rest of us some hope. In the meantime, Adam was working on the site.
I thought of waiting for others to do something to get a site up and running, and all secure, safe and trustworthy. Then, I realised that if I want something to work, I have to get out and contribute with suggestions.

Understandable that when one is making close to 5% of all posted comments on the Cat, that one wouldn’t have time to actually read other comments.

Here are a few issues to chew the fat on.
Both the previous blog owners had a really good understanding of economics. In order to run a politics site, you need that expertise. You need to have he person or people writing about it. Is this site going to be like the other one, which actually was the most successful independent blog in the country.
The open thread is not going to sustain it long term. that’s my point.

IMO this in some way highlights why the Cat must succeed, there is too few independent media/information sources left for my liking and why I was drawn to it in the first place. I have always had a questioning mind.

Monetarists and monetarians
For centuries, as we have seen, the prevalent system was that of
metallic money. Then, up to the First World War, there existed the
system derived from it, the gold standard system, after which, for more
than sixty years, attempts were made, consciously or unconsciously,
firstly to restore the gold standard and then to fmd substitutes for it. In
the end, its demise had to be accepted with resignation and new disciplines
sought elsewhere. But we are only at the beginning of this great change. Its
first steps are uncertain;· in some countries the experts are hardly aware of
it and the public is quite ignorant of it; but the process of change is in
motion.

A few more points. The old site had around 15,000 unique visitors a day and something like 30,00 clicks. Lurkers weren’t just attracted to the open thread to read what exhilarating new comment the Rones was making about the military history of the African Fluck. They also weren’t there to read the Driller’s intelligent, high IQ comments about how to pour a beer or why he fired someone because the person burnt the toast. They were there to be intellectually stimulated and a large part though not all was to do with the individual writings. They were really good.

Personally I don’t think this is that important. More interested in what people do rather than say. So far the “do” gets a big thumbs up.
I don’t understand why there couldn’t be an orderly transition on the old Cat. (If you’ve lost interest and others want to take it on, what’s to negotiate?). In any case you’ve stepped into the breach.

Not so much herding cats, more like throwing a few hundred in a bag and seeing what happens.
On the trust issue I will use my tried and true answer. How do you know if you can trust me? The simple answer is you can’t. Probably would of used a better known cat name if running something dodgy.
I actually think lack of presence on the original is a positive because I have no baggage to bring here and no feuds to fight. Because I read there so much I feel I know so many people already but that would not be reciprocated simply because I lacked the time to follow a discussion on the old cat when I did post.
Ideologically I am basically a libertarian but believe there is a passivity inate within that allows the left to dominate the discussion for decades. I don’t however have a solution.

Honestly I want to protect my business interest from leftie nut jobs. It’s already precarious with an insane government, overbearing government agencies and woke corporate partners who will throw you to the wolves. I am not a tenured professor I don’t have that luxury and is the main reason I don’t want to make it about me. Plus I thought if I posted all my thoughts at once as soon as I had the privilege to I would look like a twat.
I am actually surprised the cat shut down I just built this as a back up, I offered to migrate the original and moderate for sinc, and I believe CL had similar discussions to no avail.
As for calling the shots that will be me. I am fairly easy going with a simple no dickhead policy which I subjectively enforce. I have done a similar project a few years ago which evolved with time but where I had strong control in the teething stages. I am happy to collaborate but as I mentioned elsewhere I don’t want to be causing friction by using people that may not be universally popular let’s say and my lack of posting puts me in a neutral starting position.
