Peter Moody laying it out. The Hun:

‘Caulfield Cup winning trainer Peter Moody has taken an extraordinary swipe at authorities in Western Australia after the news emerged this week that the Perth carnival would be a “locals only” event.
Due to border restrictions in place in Western Australia because of the covid-19 pandemic, it was decided that the upcoming Perth Racing carnival – featuring 3 Group Ones – would be an intrastate event.
That has caused a few grapes from across the Nullarbor, including from Moody, who was in no mood to hold back his thoughts on the state government’s restrictions that make it impractical for interstate horses to travel to Perth when discussing with the issue on his Moody On The Mic podcast.
“…Every man and his dog was allowed to fly in for the fucking AFL Grand Final, and players and everyone… and they won’t let horses fly in for the racing carnival,” Moody said. “I think the West Australian Premier needs to pull his head out of his arse and have a look at how many people the racing industry actually employees in his state.”
There was a brief stunned silence on the four man podcast, before Rosemount Stud’s Anthony Mithen endorsed Moody’s comments, albeit “less the expletives”.
“Well said Peter, even with the expletives,” Mithen added.’

    It’s a privilege apparently.

Hawthorn AFLW coach Bec Goddard says she was on the brink of being rushed to hospital with uncontrollable fevers after a bout of Covid-19 that continues to leave her without the ability to taste or smell.

Five weeks on from the height of the illness, suffered while living in Canberra, she says her double vaccinated status clearly saved her from a worse case of the debilitating illness.

Goddard told News Corp she was “privileged” to have had twin doses of a vaccine that lessened the severity of the case.

Hawthorn AFLW coach Bec Goddard has opened about her Covid battle. Picture: Gary Ramage

The newly appointed Hawks AFLW coach was so fatigued and wracked by fever she was in consultation with a doctor about being admitted to hospital.

She is still without most of her sense of taste, apart from knowing foods are salty or sweet.

Goddard said on Friday she was keen to destigmatise Covid-19 for people who had done everything right, but were still guilty about getting breakthrough illnesses.

She paid tribute to Hawks midfielder Finn Maginness, who was happy to be identified as having contracted Covid given he had done nothing wrong to contract the illness.

The Hawks have several players who are close contacts quarantining but no further spread, with Maginness quarantining for 14 days.

Goddard said she and her partner still had no idea where they had contracted the virus.

“Especially in the first few days the stigma was the big thing, you didn’t want people to know it,” Goddard said.

“How did we get this? Did we stay socially distanced enough? Where did we catch it, we had to have done something wrong.

“But the reality of this is we are good people who took precautions and still got it.”

Goddard said her partner started sneezing one day and they thought it was seasonal; hay fever because they were both double-vaccinated.

Goddard said she was “privileged” to have had twin doses of a vaccine that lessened the severity of the case. Picture: Andrew Henshaw

“She found out the day after her test that she was Covid-positive and I was still testing negative so we separated for four days and then I tested positive when I was in isolation,” she said.

“I started coughing and then I was allowed to go back and be with her and when I got home I started to get quite sick.

“I had uncontrollable fevers for three and a half hours at a time and then would have a 30 minute break and it would come back again.

“I lost taste and smell completely. I still don’t have it back five weeks later.

“I went jaundiced, I turned yellow. The fevers went on from days four to eight and on the eighth day we had the doctor on the phone twice that day.

“I couldn’t even have a conversation with my partners. I couldn’t move from the bed to the couch and you become weak. You are not eating or drinking.

“It was terrible, absolutely terrible. But I am extremely grateful to be double vaccinated. I think it’s a privilege to have a lifesaving vaccine. We did everything right and still got quite unwell.”

Asked how close she was to being transported to hospital, Goddard said: “Honestly that last day when I had those fevers and went jaundiced, it was touch and go that day.

“Really close. But it’s also all about gratefulness and speaking in the positive mindset about things we can because of the privilege we have to be able to have access to the vaccine.”

Goddard needed another fortnight off her work with the Australian Federal Police once her fever broke and says, only now, is she regaining some sense of taste.

“I can tell if something is salty, I can tell if something is sweet, but I can’t taste the food itself,” she said.

“I am drinking black coffee, because what is the point in wasting calories or having flat whites I can’t taste it and I still can’t taste toothpaste, but I can taste banana.

“I am taking vitamin B to help with recovery and my immune system and hopefully in another couple of months I will be better.

“I got quite down about it because you don’t often think about much you like eating because you enjoy the taste.”

She says AFL and AFLW players who have signed up for vaccinations, with only a few notable exceptions, have taken a leadership role in the community that should be commended.

“I think it helps when people come out and talk about their experiences of having it,” Goddard said.

“Overseas everyone has had it and they are living their lives but here in Australia it can be the hot gossip. Who is, who have you been around?

“And the reality of it is it’s going to be the future and you can do everything right and still get it.”

Bathing and Laundering on the Western Front.

Can you nominate a support unit that was vital for achieving military success on the Western Front in World War One? You might suggest the medical services, or the engineers who built roads from the mud, or the transport drivers who brought up the vital ammunition and other stores, and in all of those responses, you would be correct. But what about a Bath and Laundry unit? Surely those were unnecessary luxuries? The answer to that is an emphatic ‘No,’ because while the opportunity for a ‘bath’ was a luxury, having a clean uniform to put on afterwards was not only a boost to morale, but from a medical standpoint, absolutely vital to maintaining the war effort because it was a prime preventative measure to combat Trench Fever.

Prior to mid 1916, bathing and laundering had been a haphazard affair, organised by each Australian division when it was practical. By the end of the year, however, with the 1st Australian Corps taking responsibility for the role, a more systematic process was in place, though this arrangement was to lapse at various times.

Trench Fever was a new disease that took an enormous toll on the health of troops existing in the unsanitary conditions of the Western Front, particularly in the trenches of the front line. The more soldiers became incapacitated by this condition, the fewer were available for service attacking or defending from the enemy.

After a good deal of study, the British military medical establishment recognised Trench Fever as a legitimate and specific disease in the northern summer of 1916. Eventually concluding that Trench Fever was passed from the common louse via cell bacteria, the condition incapacitated considerable numbers of men (exact figures are unavailable) who were then unable to perform their duties as soldiers, and thus the disease was treated seriously by authorities. As various drug treatments proved largely ineffective, much effort was expended in preventing or limiting the time that lice were able to be harboured on the persons or in the clothing of the men themselves. This took the form of implementing policies to improve both personal hygiene and the sanitary conditions in which the men lived, wherever practical. Thus the importance of the divisional or corps baths and laundries where men could wash and be provided with clean, lice-free clothing.

The opportunity to cleanse oneself of the sweat and dirt of goodness-knows-how-many-days-or-weeks, was not only important for minimising the vermin that bred in the seams of one’s uniform, it was also a morale booster. An unknown officer of the 46th Australian Infantry Battalion recorded the effect on morale of visiting a bath facility:

“The 46th Bn arrived at Outtersteene from Marseilles on June 11th [1916] and I well remember our pleasure on being marched to the Outtersteene Baths on the warm afternoon of June 26th to find that there was a certain amount of clean underclothing there for us. It had been washed at the adjoining laundry by French and Belgian women [AWM RCDIG1006162 p.4].”

Both bathing and laundering facilities were primitive by modern standards, but they ‘did the job.’ The baths at Albert, for example, “consisted of sawyer’s stoves for heating the water & barrels cut in halves for the men to bathe in.” After being issued with clean clothing, each man going on leave also took with him two certificates: one to state that he was free from lice, the other that he was free from scabies. The Outtersteene Baths, which began operating (again) in late May, 1917, initially processed 80 men per hour before increasing to 240 men per hour. Another bath unit, prior to the battle for Messines, processed 3,000 men per day for ten days straight.

It was not unusual for the men’s spare set of underclothing to have either been lost or thrown away as a result of their tour ‘in the line’ and waiting for a replacement set whilst wearing he old clothing, or having to put old, dirty clothing back on after a clean bath, allowed the vermin – in particular lice – to multiply. Hence the necessity for laundering, which was often not possible for the troops to do themselves, either because of their role in the front line, or due to inclement weather.

First, however, all clothing had to be disinfected in order to kill the lice and scabies which took such a toll on the health of the troops. This was done by one of several means: either the use of steam chambers; Clayton disinfectors, “which do their work by means of sulphur fumes;” or something called a ‘Foden-Thresh’ disinfector (Foden was a brand of lorry).

There were many laundries during the years of conflict, including one at Cagny, which was a “large linen-bleaching factory” which had ‘three or four washing machines’ and had been doing laundry for various local hotels. Owned by a Frenchman, the facility was contracted to provide laundering services (the labour to be supplied by the Australian Corps) not only for the Australians, but for five British divisions and one Canadian division also. After a slow start – the laundry was in the French sector and none of the French spoke English – by mid November, 1916, the establishment was delivering 50,000+ articles of clean clothing to the various Allied divisions, though these numbers were still wholly inadequate.

Although those who served in these Bath and Laundry units did not face the same risk as their brothers in the infantry and artillery – though some, including French civilians, were killed by enemy heavy artillery shells landing on their workplace – they nevertheless made a vital contribution to maintaining the health of the troops without whom the war could simply not have continued.

[Author – Muddy. Reference: AWM4 18/1/1 Part 1; Information re. Trench Fever from the article “Trench fever: the British medical response in the Great War” by R.L. Atenstaedt in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, November 2006, Volume 99, accessed via http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov 18 January, 2014].

Connected to WooTube censorship, I was reading another article about the videos that get disappeared if they don’t fit the agenda.

There were 2 comments with suggestions about saving videos before they vanish.

1/ There is a magnificent tool called youtube-dl. Anyone with a modicum of technical knowledge (very, very basic knowledge of the command line interface, which used to be called DOS) can use it to download videos from Youtube.
It helps Orwell-proof this kind of thing.

2/ This site (https://videodownloader.net/) allows videos from any site to be saved.

This would require someone/group able to keep a track of videos that may fall into the “disappear category” and quickly download and save.

Is there anyone here who uses such tools to save videos?

“Licensing of parents might still sound fringy, but it’s an old social engineering dream that dies hard. And they’re busily building the road to get there. Unless there is aggressive and sustained pushback, you can count on the idea invading the mainstream,” she explained.

Citing Texas’s “compelling argument[s],” the 5th Circuit has stayed OSHA’s unconstitutional and illegal private-business vaccine mandate.

WE WON! Litigation will continue, but this is a massive victory for #Texas and for FREEDOM from Biden’s tyranny and lawlessness.

    Winning

‘Friday seemed a successful day in court for former President Donald Trump – with one lawsuit against him withdrawn by the complainant and another dismissed by a judge, according to reports.

In the first case, Summer Zervos, a former contestant on “The Apprentice,” ended her 2017 lawsuit against Trump in which she accused the show’s former host of sexually assaulting her.

In the second case, a New York state judge dismissed a 2019 lawsuit brought by former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, in which Cohen sought $1.9 million from Trump to cover legal expenses.’

Jordan Petersen is someone I have never paid any attention to. My instincts were right. What a tool:

‘Initially, Peterson believed that getting the vaccine would make the government leave him alone and allow for a normal life, he said.

“Look, I got vaccinated, and people took me to task for that. And I thought, ‘All right, I’ll get the damn vaccine.’

Here’s the deal, guys: I’ll get the vaccine, you f***ing leave me alone. And did that work? No. So, stupid me.

That’s how I feel about it. So, like, well, I have to get tested for COVID when I come back into Canada. I have to get tested before I leave Canada. … Why did I get the vaccine then if you’re not going to leave me alone?”
