kaysee – on reflection, a little further on your “relationship advice” question (noting that we don’t know the couple, and aren’t relationship counsellors or psychologists, if those credentials matter )

It still holds true that no-one can be everything to someone else; people can really benefit from having other people in their lives, and different kinds of relationships, to bring out different aspects of themselves and answer different interests and inclinations. The interests of two people who love each other won’t necessarily always neatly align, and even if they do, people need time for themselves.

But I should have said that it’s also true that it’s no small thing to criticise a loved one’s hobbies and interests, to disrespect his “sanctuary”, as the woman called it. It’s a compliment to the other person to show an interest in what he’s interested in, a compliment to be invited to share in those things, and an insult to reject outright or belittle them – not to mention questioning his social life, and the relationship itself. It’s not surprising that he didn’t ‘bounce back’ to her idea of normal in response to her apologies.

And – while I don’t know the people involved, obviously – I do really question the seemingly increasingly prevalent labelling of every Tom, Dick and Harry as being “on the spectrum”. Again, no qualifications in the psych professions, but it can seem like a convenient way of pathologising behaviour that, for whatever reason, doesn’t mirror your own, or meet your expectations. Or even if it’s ‘society’s expectations’, recent years have done much to reinforce those quotes about what’s “normal” in a mad world.

If the woman’s serious about making amends for hurt caused, she would probably need to take the time to show it through her actions. An apology is one thing, but actions speak louder than words. And trust takes time, consistent effort and commitment to repair.

On the lighter side, whoever these people are – if they’re real – they are relatively young, so maybe it’s more dramatic in the telling than in reality!

    The Age

Australia has become the first country in the world to ban social media for children under 16 after the Albanese government’s legislation passed the Senate late last night. The government will take up to a year to run trials and finalise the regulations before they come into effect. While Labor’s bill enjoyed support from most of the opposition, it found critics on the crossbench and among tech giants, and garnered mixed reviews from mental health experts and privacy advocates. Read more about how it will work.

What are the definitions in the legislation of social media?
Does it include Tik Tok? Australia would be a laughing stock.

Flicking through MSM websites like the Age recently I have been repeatedly seeing stories on an Australian band with a blonde female singer. Not something I’d be interested in really, but I got the feeling this performer was trying to be Wendy O. Williams.

But there will only ever be one Wendy O.

These same Jewish Zionist accounts have been the last year telling Europeans they have to support them because they’re holding off the threat of Islamic terrorism

They’re now rooting for an actual Al-Qaeda offshoot to take over Syria

Dunno, mh. I could suggest a KD Lang triple play… she does some good covers of The Big O, Cole Porter (great song with another “different” video clip, including some fluro washing-up gloves which, perhaps inappropriately, made me think of that Aussie comedy, Fisk: “Lose the hi-vis”), The Hollies… but not sure these musical selections are to kaysee’s taste, or for this blog 🙂
