Potentially The New Cat – First Open Thread 31 July 2021

Hi Cats,

As you can see I have created a copy of the Cat for you to continue to bicker, argue and occasionally make a reasonable point.

I do hope a solution is found with the original Cat but just in case Sinc doesn’t want to transfer the site to a new generation I have built a replica before the closure so we can migrate as many of the community across as possible.

Programming Note: I rushed out the site so there will be bugs. I can get them fixed but did not want perfection to get in the way for progress.

Community Note: Please let as many cats know of the new blog as soon as possible so we can capture the magic of the original. In particular would love for the original posters to continue their great work here.

Ideological Note: I am an infrequent poster but long time reader of the Cat. The discussions there have been a huge part of my own ideological growth on many issues. In particular free speech is key for me so will have a very similar light touch to the original Cat, potentially adopting my one policy on an earlier forum I built: “No D***heads” which is subjective but surprisingly easy to implement.

Website Note: I will run the Cat as close to possible as the original because I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel. However if the community so wants I am happy to make changes to improve the experience so if you have any ideas let me know. For anything specific hit me up at the contact form, else go nuts in the comments.

There’s some angst about a ‘leak’ that shows anti-vaxers were right. Not so.

The latest CDC material simply ‘leaks’ that the health communication around the vaxes needs to change. i.e. people need to be told you can get Covid having had the vax, and you can pass it on, but you will be at far less risk of being seriously ill or dying with Covid yourself. There are big figures to back this up. So if many are vaxed then fewer will be hospitalised or die. The infectivity rate is sky high though. Not Measles but heading in that direction. And the virulence is a little worse, and its hits the younger populations more (which may be a vaccine artifact, as they are less vaccinated).

If you don’t want the vax, be like Winston. Hope you get a mild Covid dose and gain herd immunity. Some won’t though, they’ll cop a high viral load, find they can’t fight it, and they will die. That is certain. You are less ikely to die if you have the vax. That is also certain now given those CDC figures.

On the numbers, better overall to vaxx, but I wouldn’t force anyone to do so. Should be a personal choice once fully informed. Where information comes from might be worth considering. Some, like flyingduk, prefer to rely on their own immunity and their special diet (which most are not on). He will use Ivermectin and by not vaxxing will avoid any rare complications now or later. That’s a gamble against rampant Covid and the solid evidence that the vaxes are safe and work. Not a popular view for many though, and I respect their right to form another picture of their risks.

Whatever may have been the case with Covid, it’s over now. Predictably it has conformed to Farr’s Law and its capacity to do actual harm has followed a standard Bell Curve.

The short (two and half minute) video below demonstrates this using the UK Department of Health’s own figures. Not opinions, not “modelling”, but hard statistical facts. There is no reason now for anybody to be “vaccinated” against Covid 19.

The Pfizer vaccine is already outdated, it’s that simple, it’s not a magic new technology, it’s just another iteration of the same old failed coronavirus vaccines that all the other failures over the last 20 years have been: beaten by the mutations, will require multiple ‘boosters’ a year to maintain. Useless.

Hopefully that’s all its problems is, and it wont also kill all the recipients when they finally do come into contact with coronavirus like many of the previous failed attempts did.

Judging by the behaviour of public health and governments around the world at the moment – who seem increasingly hysterical about the virus in exact correlation to how many people are vaccinated, that may well be something they’re worried about.

    Lizzie –
My husband and I are doing the same. We are now introducing the suggested vitamin protocols (bioflavinoids/zinc) into the vitamised breakfast drink of veggies & fruit we have each morning. Cutting down on alcohol (damn!!!) & crap food (not that we have that much). Both of us, being on the farm, get plenty of Vit D, & we certainly get plenty of exercise! Have Betadine handy if we ever get a tingle of a sore throat, & gargle after any situation where risk could be present – which will be rare, given our location.

The Ivermectin situation is still problematic, as we only have vet product (for application to skin) available & I am still unsure of veracity of claim of vaxers that it is in concentration unsuitable for human use.

Otherwise, we still await the arrival of Novavax but are concerned about the financial interest in the Pharma companies in prolonging use of their products.

Still in the wings, but getting closer, are the monoclonal antibody therapies.

The ineffectiveness of the “vaccine” is irrelevant. It may as well be saline solution. Its entire purpose was as a means of introducing a back door ID and tracking system via the “Vaccine Passport”.

This has nothing to do with a pandemic, and never did. It’s always been about getting people to accept a 24/7 system of monitoring, tracking, compliance, and control. Now they have it, and it is ready to roll out in the next few weeks.

    Adam,
I wanted to post this under the “Site Fixes”, but it seems as if that thread is being ignored.

You have done a fantastic job getting this site up in such a short time. In addition to that, you have managed to archive the original Cat. That is a huge effort, especially as you have family responsibilities as well. I doubt anyone would have expected that we would have a New Cat to move to before the lights were switched off on the other one.

I have a long list of suggestions for the site. But they are not relevant at the moment. I think the top billing is to focus on the Site Security. Everything else is secondary.

    Security:
1/ The site is displaying as “Not Secure”. This is probably due to the insecure HTTP (not HTTPS) protocol.
2/ The unmasking* of email addresses. That needs to be secure.

All other aspects are nice frills to have, and they can take place over the next few weeks or months. All we need is a basic site. It doesn’t matter if it runs slow or comments display a bit later.

Other functionality like “Reply” options can wait. We did not have it on the (original) Cat and we lived with it. Even HTML options are not a priority. Bloggers and posters will return. Where else can they go? 🙂

Could you put up a “Suggestions Thread”? Commenters tend to jump in and get off on other topics. This should be exclusively for any suggestions to be listed and debated.

Thanks, Adam, for getting us this site to continue on ……

(* I was reluctant to come into this site due to the unmasking. But there was no other way to offer suggestions. So, I am in Beta mode, using a temporary email address that won’t worry me if it gets unmasked.)

Agree, particularly what he plans to do about the many issues that running this thing will bring.

If you want to be mad at someone, try Jacques and Sinc. Not at the people who have stepped up to help. You bums.

Not sure if this will get many sales, but an interesting idea indeed.

JC and twosticks, if you go to the top of the page and read what Adam has written, in particular about his ideology, you might get enough information to put your minds at rest. Or perhaps not.

Barnaby Joyce, pinnacle of his working life was being DPM to M. Turnbull. After he lost that position he has worked very hard to get it back. I feel it means the world to him and his crew.

So slightly demonising those wary about a vaccine at this stage with the business of advising shopkeepers to withdraw their services from the un-vaccinated, fits in with PM Morrison. It’s a political career type thing for him, in fact a necessity to keep the DPM job.

    Let’s see.

The old Catallaxy worked because a large number of writers were prepared to post threads and this gave the open thread a life of it’s own.

I have serious doubts if the open thread will be able to carry the site. It wasn’t the open thread that carried the old site. People should remember that.

No problem, Alba. I’m happy to STFU. … hardly ever though.

Adam goes back years on the cat, possibly as long as anybody else.
He doesn’t have to report in to JC for ‘approval’
    (or to anybody else)

If a particular cat regular does not recall Adam, they’ve not paid attention over the past 10 years or so (at least)

Understandable that when one is making close to 5% of all posted comments on the Cat, that one wouldn’t have time to actually read other comments.

Adam is solid. He’s run blogs across multiple platforms, he’s been required to move in the past – he’s also quick off the mark.

If someone is insulted coz Adam hasn’t shown sufficient respect by submitting his CV for approval, then well, that someone is free to not post here – (how libertarian can you get?)

Always the thoughtful one. The FNQ’er with the huge ideas who’s own blog had 3 readers over the 10 years it lived.

As though anyone has disagreed with that.

And yea, you fucking worthless sack of shit, if a newbie takes over a blog with these credentials he should explain why and who he is.

Now fuck off and go pour drinks, you oppositional fuckwit.
