Potentially The New Cat – First Open Thread 31 July 2021

Hi Cats,

As you can see I have created a copy of the Cat for you to continue to bicker, argue and occasionally make a reasonable point.

I do hope a solution is found with the original Cat but just in case Sinc doesn’t want to transfer the site to a new generation I have built a replica before the closure so we can migrate as many of the community across as possible.

Programming Note: I rushed out the site so there will be bugs. I can get them fixed but did not want perfection to get in the way for progress.

Community Note: Please let as many cats know of the new blog as soon as possible so we can capture the magic of the original. In particular would love for the original posters to continue their great work here.

Ideological Note: I am an infrequent poster but long time reader of the Cat. The discussions there have been a huge part of my own ideological growth on many issues. In particular free speech is key for me so will have a very similar light touch to the original Cat, potentially adopting my one policy on an earlier forum I built: “No D***heads” which is subjective but surprisingly easy to implement.

Website Note: I will run the Cat as close to possible as the original because I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel. However if the community so wants I am happy to make changes to improve the experience so if you have any ideas let me know. For anything specific hit me up at the contact form, else go nuts in the comments.

“But I wonder what would have happened if the Luftwaffe had concentrated on wiping out the RAF, and then hammered the southern cities relentlessly with aircraft and V1 missiles. Meanwhile the U-Boats go all out against Britain’s food and oil supplies.”
Stand back on the defensive on French soil would have done more for the German war effort than throwing the Luftwaffe against GB. Every plane shot down over Britain was a loss not only of the aircraft but a valuable crew as well. The cost in fuel alone was a major issue for Germany. Better to build up strength and replenish the fuel stocks.
More effort in the submarine blockade would have worked. Without the fuel, food, and strategic metals coming from the US, Britain would have foundered.
    Whalehunt Fun:
” Not a large price for Hitler to pay for ending the western front and allowing more focus on ridding Russia of the then government.”
Taking on Russia before the German war economy had been built was the biggest mistake. Germany needed the oil of the Iran/Iraq region and should have concentrated their efforts clearing Britain from the Suez. Taking Cairo may well have been enough to collapse British morale.
Who knows? Maybe making significant investments in the Rumanian oil fields and the coal to oil program in Germany would have made the whole Middle East moot?

Here we see, in reality, a tribute to Adam. Having created a functioning blog within 72 hours, and improving by the hour, that blog is attracting those who already have their own blogs.

But because those blogs are unread and ignored due to their owner/operators’ Radio Rentalness they feel compelled to spread their ‘message’ to an undoubtedly wider, more worldly and well-read audience.

It’s like parking a 1969 Mustang Boss 429 in a car yard full of Holden Camiras. All the salesmen are zombie-walking towards it thinking ‘This’ll get me a lick of that brass ring’, leaving their giant inflatable arm-wavy balloon things behind them.

Upthread Muddy asked a good question about what is it exactly we want from this new reincarnated Cat. Whilst I can’t speak for others, for me personally I would just like it to be a continuation of what worked so well for years with the original Cat…..where we have commentators such as the wonderful C.L. setting up threads devoted to specific stuff and of course we have the Open Forum where we can all hang out, comment, kvetch, gossip and stoush, Why change a good thing? An example of such a specific thread…which I reckon C.L. would already have created a thread about on the original Cat is be the story about how the ABC is going to set up an “inquiry” of sorts into the ABC’s Luna Park programme…aired earlier this year. Note that no such inquiry has ever been initiated by their ABC re. the Pell lynching and the 7-0 verdict….a verdict which should have compelled any reputable media outlet to open an inquiry into…..and their ABC, with their spruiking of Louse Nilligan’s questionable journalism (I hate using the words journalism and Louse Milligan together) is deeply entangled in this…and I haven’t gotten to the the Porter affair yet. This thread would already have attracted numerous comments and robust debate.

I would also like to see Vikki Campion’s weekly piece uploaded for discussion. And I would also like to occasionally post pieces on a thread for discussion and I’m sure there are many other Cats who would like to do the same. A reminder, this new Cat is only days old so we need to be patient and I take my hat off to Adam for creating this.

I believe we need the Cat more than ever…we are entering dark times and one day they’ll come for us but in the meantime we need to thrash it all out here and enjoy doing it.

As for trolls……Lizzie is right as is Dr BG….I’m torn. I certainly value Monty’s presence (can’t believe I’m saying that but then who wants this to be an echo chamber?) and I’ll even tolerate Creepy Grigs but I don’t want Numbers posting his drivel….and then there is Bird the Lunatic…currently mushrooming all over this site. Whilst a Bird strike can be entertaining…..for about two minutes…..it quickly descends into utter offensiveness such as pure unadulterated anti-Semitism because he can’t help himself. Bird was on Discord two nights ago babbling on about me killing my other half (who isn’t Jewish) and using his blood to make bizarre stuff. That’s the old blood libel which accused Jews of murdering people, draining their blood and making matza for Passover. Such libels led to pogroms and the Holocaust. I don’t think such rubbish is appropriate on any forum and if we’re going to try and attract people to create threads they will (rightly) not want to be associated with a site which allows such offensive drivel to dominate.

Anyway, they’re my thoughts for the morning.

Given Adam likely has limited time to deal with it, this blog needs to be more self-regulating.

There is a plug-in which allows people to ‘report’ a post. This can send an instantaneous alert to Adam for review. A threshold of number of ‘reports’ can also be set (not mandatory) which, if passed, can disappear the comment until it is reviewed…and either deleted, or reinstated.

I have mixed feelings about this, but it might make Adam’s life easier. At least it would instantly make him aware of potentially libellous comments, for a quick response.

The right threshold of reports might strike the appropriate balance for comments going into moderation.

#2 No sock puppets. You make a comment, you stand by that comment, don’t back it up with a sock, or multiple socks.

Woman’s murder ‘not a sex crime’
    EXCLUSIVE
    DAVID MURRAY

    AUTHORITIES ACCEPT KILLER’S STORY

Authorities appear to have accepted at face value a convicted sex offender’s claim that he intended to rob, not rape, his neighbour when he murdered her, despite substantial evidence it was a sex crime.

Paul Anthony Vaughan attacked his neighbour Nina Lewis, 26, in her home at Ipswich, west of Brisbane, in 2004, bludgeoning her to death before dumping her body in the Brisbane River.

Lewis’s body was found five days later, her lower half naked and her wrists and ankles bound with duct tape. She had been blindfolded and gagged.

Vaughan was on parole at the time for abducting and assaulting a 17-year-old girl he had bundled into the boot of his car, intending to rape her, in 1999.

He was forensically linked to Lewis’s murder by a fingerprint on the duct tape, eventually pleaded guilty to her murder. He is seeking parole after serving his minimum 15-year sentence.

A parole board assessment report obtained by The Australian appears to accept a version of events Vaughan has put forward that is strenuously rejected by investigators.

The report says Vaughan, now 45, claimed he broke into Lewis’s home intending to steal items to sell or exchange for marijuana, and when she returned home he panicked and pushed her, causing her to hit her head on a coffee table.

“Prisoner Vaughan has presented a version of his offending which is considered to be consistent with the official version obtained through sentencing remarks,” the report states.

“It is not considered that he made attempts to minimise his actions or externalise blame at his parole interview. His disclosures indicate his acceptance of his actions and remorse.”

The report adds Vaughan engaged in sexual offending assessments and interventions in prison “despite there being no apparent sexual motivation in his murder offence”. He would have been considered suitable by the report’s author for supervised release if not for an ongoing investigation into an alleged 2019 assault of another prisoner.

A committee reviewed the report and found Vaughan was not yet suitable for parole, saying “there does not appear to be a clear indication as to what drives his offending”.

A separate psychological risk assessment report for the parole board last year also details Vaughan’s claims it was a robbery gone wrong. “In my view, Mr Vaughan does not set out to act violently, in that he does not develop a predatory plan,” Therese Ellis-Smith said.

“His acts of violence have been unplanned and spontaneous. He acts violently when unable to manage his emotions, whether it be frustration and anger, as in 1999, or fear and panic in 2004.”

The two reports conflict with the views of the lead investigator, Detective Inspector Tom Armitt, who has said there was “no doubt in our mind that (the murder) was a sexual offence”.

Queensland’s Court of Appeal detailed police evidence in a 2006 judgment. It says after Lewis disappeared, and three days before her body was found, Vaughan was questioned by police and volunteered he was on parole “for something similar … a similar offence, but it was attempted rape”.

Judge John Jerrard said a jury could consider the comment was “a significant admission of involvement in the abduction and actual rape of (Lewis)”.

In a later interview, Vaughan “also implied a belief that there may be some forensic evidence of his semen on the deceased”, claiming a friend may have planted it, Justice Jerrard said.

The Parole Board Queensland rejected Vaughan’s parole application last October and told him he could reapply in a year.

Nick now calls Malcolm a “prick”.

It would seem that with Malcolm, familiarity breeds contempt.

I remember an interview that Nick Whitlam did some years ago – ABC? He said words to the effect that between him, Wran and ole Mal, the latter’s ego, even up against the other two, pushed both of them, together.

The old saying about politics being show business for ugly people is more apt than most people can imagine, most people being relatively sound and decent.

    News Corp Australia Sports Newsroom
An hour ago August 3, 2021

In one of the most controversial events of the Tokyo Games, dividing global opinion, transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard, has crashed out of the super heavyweight women’s final.

New Zealander Hubbard, a competitive weightlifter as a man who transitioned at the age of 35 and is now competing in the women’s events, failed to make any of her three lifts in the snatch section.

The 43-year-old’s failure to record a score saw her out of the competition before the clean and jerk began.

She had started at a heavier weight – 120kg and 125kg – than most of the field but was unable to execute a clean lift.”

Apparently when I say they are trying to bring in a Chinese style social credit scheme, I’m blaming the Chinese for this.
I am blaming the WEF, Klaus Schwab, and the commo corruptocrat elites in the UN and it’s many different forms and organisations including the likes of Bill Gates and others.
    The megalomaniac global socialist elite.
I have only said it a million times.
Sure the Chinese are hand in glove with it all, but the organisations pushing it are the ones stated above.

Cassie, your thoughts on the future of this site are very good. Yes, we do need to have some main thread items put up for individual and detailed discussion by Cats. That gives the site its overall gravitas. The OT is really the added extra. As you note, no-one of any substance will be attracted write for the main threads on a site that has Birdie on it spouting his anti-semitism (he is trying hard not to be so but can’t really distinguish much intellectually yet; keep on your meds Birdie but you are still unwell and have no place here). Just notice above that in saying the Jews have never been an oppressed people he conveniently forgets the holocaust and the continual pogroms of history.

As for SSR, she is a fellow grandmother and is entitled to her opinion, and also entitled to not have it linked to much of the internet lunacy of paedophile ‘pizzagate’ etc, but she does not help her cause by suggesting that paedophilia underwrites all of the elites of this very complex world. As in:

“simply because I acknowledge the fact some of the worst real world crimes fund the placing and keeping of some the worse people in positions of power. … ”

Police bust awful pedo rings, big ones and small ones, and good on them for that. But there is no evidence that these rings are keeping ‘elites’ in power; SRR provides none and has linked to conspiracy sites on this. Certainly occasionally persons high in power are pedos, but many pedos are simply private citizens. Certainly, all of them want to hide their twisted activities. That now said SSR, can you now move on to other topics unless you have something far more evidential to provide re pedo rings and power-holders? Otherwise, the pedo stuff smacks of a type of obsession with you.

Grandmas are great and needed on the Cat. We can see back over the years and forward for our grandchildren. I don’t want to ban SSR. Never did.
