Canola has a good amount of DHA in it. I think it has a bland slightly medicinal taste. I don’t rate it beyond shallow frying.

Canola is deodorised and sanitised. It is somewhat oxidised from high heat treatment, which is the main problem with these vegetable oils. You can buy cold pressed canola, but you may as well just buy cold press virgin olive oil.

Use sunflower or just plain veg oil. Don’t use Canola (rapeseed oil) pigs won’t eat that shit. It is not a plant we consume, so why consume its oil?

    —————————————————————-

Axl knows bugger all about canola oil.

I wouldn’t fry with rapeseed oil either, but that’s not canola oil.

High oleic canola oil is good for frying and high in mono-saturates. Plenty of this type canola being planted to replace palm oil.

Palm oils fries really well, tastes great but also good for clogging up the arteries.

Canola oil is a vegetable oil derived from a variety of rapeseed that is low in erucic acid, as opposed to colza oil. There are both edible and industrial forms produced from the seed of any of several cultivars of the plant family Brassicaceae.

**Canola is deodorised and sanitised. It is somewhat oxidised from high heat treatment, which is the main problem with these vegetable oils.**

Deodorising removes aldehydes and ketones because it is generally done under very low pressure.

If oil lasts for 1 – 2 years, it likely has tiny levels of free acid and oxidants. Oxidation is a process which is exponential.

    You are right about sanitation.

The process also removes tocopherols which are antioxidants.

This is why cold pressed oils are better.

Some of it goes to customer perception. A good olive oil is not always clear. That lack of clarity can be seen as a flaw.

Old Arnie before he went girlie man touted flaxseed oil. Any reports?

    Woo-hoo! I’m re-personed! Thanks, Adam.

As for cooking oils, that scam run by ‘celebrity chefs’ like that SA woman who was always spruiking extra-virgin olive oil (which she happened to sell) for cooking is nonsense.

For stir frying or indeed most frying, peanut oil is best. That’s what Chinese and Asian chefs use if they can.

Good quality olive oil is best used at room temperature in dressings for salads or as a dipping sauce for bread or splashed over various dishes at the end to give a bit of oomph. As a frying medium, I’d rate it at the lower end because it doesn’t get hot enough before the flavour starts to degrade. As for using extra virgin for frying – it’s just an ostentatious display of wealth combined with ignorance – unless you happen to be selling it.

Peanut oil is very similar canola oil in fats. It has a higher level of saturated fats that helps the frying quality.
Palm oil is nearly all saturated fat, that’s why it fries well.

    It’s basically a lard tree.

To that end, everyone in favour of such abuses of power in a “free” “democratic” country should have to watch footage of what the allied troops found when they arrived at the concentration camps in Germany, Poland etc. Or, perhaps, Schlinder’s List.

I just tried to put up a clip from Sky news that nilk had up on her site. Pearls before swine.

The good things are, we Neanderthals do not have to scroll past the travails of the nouveau riche about how incompetent their tradesmen are, their past relationships for the last 60 years, their public generosity to less fortunate relatives, and their interlecshural superiority.

    And that’s a short list.

I suspect that one or two readers here recognise Molesworth, possibly who even who do not have university degrees, you snob.
