Nick Kyrgios has scored a rollicking win over world No.1 Daniil Medvedev to underline his US Open title credentials while the first stop on Serena Williams’ farewell tour has come to a quick end.

Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios once again made a mockery of the rankings to wear down Medvedev 6-7, (7-2), 6-4, 6-2 in a sapping Canadian Open second-round encounter played in searing heat and humidity. He will now face countryman Alex De Minaur for a place in the last eight in Montreal…

A staff member spitting in someone’s beer would have left the pub open to all kinds of unpleasant legal consequences if the pub did nothing about it.

Rightly so, too. Staff spitting in someone’s food or drink is way, way out of line.

If the pub management wanted to, they could ask the ‘offensive’ patrons to leave and be within their rights.

    Sudden adult death syndrome?

The rugby league world is mourning the sudden death of premiership-winning coach Paul Green.

The 49-year-old passed away at his Brisbane home on Thursday morning.

A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of his death.

Friends have revealed Green had not complained about being ill and have been left shocked and devastated by his passing.

He had been regularly mentioned as a coaching option at a number of NRL clubs this season, and was on track to make a comeback in 2023.

    More on Paul Green

“Paul was loved by so many and we know that this news will generate immense interest, however at this time we ask for privacy.

“Our family is still trying to understand this tragedy and we request space and time as we come to terms with this loss. Thank you.”

Queensland police also released a statement on Thursday afternoon.

“Police were called to a Wynnum residence just after 10am this morning after a 49-year-old was located unresponsive,” a Queensland police spokeswoman said.

“He was declared deceased by emergency crews a short time later.

“There are no suspicious circumstances. A report will be prepared for the coroner.”

The exact cause of death is not yet known.

It was also revealed on Thursday afternoon that Green had an assistant NRL coaching role lined up for next season.

“It will become clear in the next couple of days, Paul Green was going back into coaching next year as an assistant,” rugby league reporter Ben Dobbin told Triple M.

I wonder what we’ll get in a few weeks after it’s left the news cycle.

Died of natural causes I’m guessing. At 49.

They’ve had this in health for a few years as a mandatory competency. Computer learning and multi-choice test. No take, no work. No pass, no work. You can’t go into the next section til you’ve answered “correctly”. You’re forced to accept things you don’t believe or you’re out. The very worst thing is there’s almost 100% opposition to them but people do them without taking a blind bit of notice.

Front page of the Hun has the headline ‘Jailhouse Shock’. Article begins thusly:

‘Fearful prisoners at Victoria’s biggest women’s jail have launched a petition demanding the removal of a transgender inmate who committed series sex offences against females while a man.

Women at the Dame Phyllis Frost Correctional Centre say the transgender offender, who has a “working” penis, shouldn’t be there.

Their plea says they “feel threatened, unsafe, distressed and traumatised with this current situation”.

So a bloke is locked up with the women. And suddenly we can define what a woman is.

How on earth does this happen? Have Corrective Services, and the Minister, lost what they are pleased to call their collective mind?

If you asked the next 100 people who walked down any street in the country (except Oxford St Sydney and environs) what they think about this, I guarantee that at least 95 of them would say that it is ridiculous, to put it mildly.

How do these organisations and politicians become so disconnected from common sense?

Welcome to Victoria. For the last ten years they have replaced the experienced public service with recent University graduates. They do exactly what they are told, have no life/street experience and their brains are filled with diversity, inclusion, climate, first nations and victimhood.
Every bureaucracy is filled and topped with viscous thin lipped and fat wimin disappointed and bitter with life and plenty of public service money. They start all their meetings with a welcome to country. Perhaps the endless smoking ceremonies have destroyed their brains.

One more quarter of contraction and the UK will be in a technical recession.

The U.K. economy contracted in the second quarter of 2022, as the country’s cost-of-living crisis hit home.

Official figures published Thursday showed that gross domestic product (GDP) shrunk by 0.1% quarter-on-quarter in the second three months of the year, less than the 0.3% contraction expected by analysts.

It comes after GDP expanded by 0.8% in the first quarter of the year.
