Monday (in)Sanity – Reality: the only weapon of the conservative

In a political world where one side has almost unlimited power it intrigues me that the vote still changes regularly between the conservative and the progressive. How exactly does the conservative win an election when the progressive has but is not limited to:

– Hollywood
– Media
– Deep State
– Education System (K-12 and now pre-school)
– Universities
– State Media
– Public Service
– Social Media
– Corporations

So pretty much every institution you can think of. So how do conservatives win anything at any time? The answer I believe lies in the heart of the respective political philosophies. The progressive has an immature and hubristic attitude to making changes, believing utopia is a realistic destination rather than a concept you try to achieve. The conservative has a similar utopia but is bound by the realities of the world in working towards such an ideal.

So no matter how much the progressive wants something to be, willpower alone will not change the laws of reality. You can not argue yourself out of inflation, or the biological differences of the sexes. Reality does not care how many years you spent at university or how unfair the situation may be, it has no moral concerns or higher purpose. All reality will ever do for the progressive is provide an endless supply of metaphorical slap to the face one that the conservative will learn from and the progressive will try to reason out of.

Conservatives then by default are weighed down with a hard sell when it comes to almost any topic. Dealing with reality is a hard sell whilst the other side is selling outright fantasy and ultimately will result in the inevitable shift of power in a democratic system.

Reality is teaching California a lovely lesson as I type this. The timing of the most recent plan to move to full electric vehicles by 2035 just three days before the power grid collapsed was beautifully poetic. Will they learn that renewables simply do not work on a large scale or will they double down on their ignorance and believe they can reduce the temperature of the planet to reduce the use of Air Conditioning instead?

Will the west stop printing money to combat inflation or spend more government funds to ease the cost of living?

Will we acknowledge the biological differences of the sexes and let meritocracy ensure we get the best people for the right jobs?

Will we understand cultural differences are not merely cosmetic and have real consequences both positive and negative?

Will the left understand that spending on military involves less war not more? Or maybe a better way to put it, do you think foreign powers will let you live in peace without defence spending?

Will the left consider that welfare creates a poverty cycle and that more money is rarely the solution?

Will the left understand that taxing the rich doesn’t work as they can move their money?

Will the left ever consider the human condition when thinking of ways to change the world? The same human condition they project on the conservative being greedy, selfish and heartless. If your solution requires the individual to behave in an exact way then it is doomed to fail before it begins. Humans are complex and messy creatures who have their own motivations and desires and no system requiring force will ever be able to work with that. Communism is a great idea if no human at any time ever cheated, lied, been greedy,  lazy, incompetent, is slower, dumber or weaker.

Who are these conservatives of which you speak/ Abbott? Trumble? ScuMo? Dutton? Perrotet? Judged by their actions, they aren’t? The next 2 years are gonna be super interesting. Interesting doesn’t mean nice.

As we have no Trump like character, well appart from maybe Mark Latham, willing to take the fight up to the left, then like Shy Ted said. But interesting means craptastic.

Many “Conservatives” in the political arena, especially those in leadership roles, have sold themselves over to the other side. They are busy compromising and making deals for their own political survival. A little bit net zero here, a little bit lockdowns there, until there is nothing left of the conservative values.

So how do conservatives win anything at any time?

The progressive does not realise that Utopia is a myth, totally unattainable, because the progressive believes (falsely) in the perfectibility of humanity.

I was speaking in a general sense, conservatives are extremely rare politically, why that is might be a whole different topic.

The progressive does not realise that Utopia is a myth, totally unattainable, because the progressive believes (falsely) in the perfectibility of humanity.

    Beautifully put, I agree 100%.

    They don’t win.
They stay very, very still and quiet and wait for the stench of the incumbents to become so bad that enough voters peel away.
Even this eventually stops working once, California like, the left have enough voters utterly dependent on government and stooges in place to goof the election result.
The centre right have to left their heads up from making money and looking after their own long enough to start contesting the cultural issues that are killing us.
