I’ve seen that argument lots of times and holding it as a generalized rule makes no sense.

    Here’s why.

Traders… If traders take the view that you’re dealing only with other people money and take moon shots, eventually those moonshots end up blowing up before they leave earth.

High paying jobs aren’t easy to find and if your track record is dismal you’re gonsky. Once, we fired a trader who deliberately went over his trading limit by a big margin and he made money. He was too risky as he wouldn’t obey the rules.

99% of traders are very careful with money that isn’t theirs and therefore trade carefully. When they aren’t and lose money they’re canned.

You generally find those taking pot shots at zero tier bucket shops.

Thanks for linking the Talib article, Dot. Plenty of food for thought there.

When I was in high school I happened on the results of the IQ tests for my class (we would have been about 15 at the time). I paid attention and remembered a good number of the scores.

At our 40 year reunion it was interesting to see that the top five (scored at 135+) were all moderately successful materially and professionally, but nothing outstanding. The guy who seems to have made the most money was about 120, and a couple of others who also did well in business had similar scores. Note that my class was the top class out of three in that year.

A couple of guys who were in the lower two classes, so presumably were not as good at taking tests, also did very well in the real world, much better than the top scorers.

Financial success is only one measure, I get that, but it does support some of Talib’s criticisms of IQ as a predictive instrument.

The Americans, Europeans (when not euroweenies), us. When you’re copying others you’re always behind the 8 ball. You can never get in front.

Example… Just stick with me here and don’t go on a hate rampage. Take Apple.  This was a few years ago, but I don’t think much has changed since.

Apple took in 90% of the profits in smart phones while sharing 10% of the market. This is mind boggling. All the other fuckers had to be content with 10% of the profits.

Take global brand names. Is there even one Chinese firm in the top 20?

Universities… Like you,  I’m seeing all these American, Australian and European kids rushing to attend Chinese universities. 🙂

Europeans are smarter creatively and this means it never really stops as the copycats are always behind. The Chinese economy is not set up for the people to be creative. Authoritarianism has the effect. Hiden is a storm in a teacup… if they’re able to stop the cheating, the demons are longterm fucked.

Fire whirlwinds are a common sight in really dry brush and stubble fires. Those trees are pines that are bursting into flame. They rank right up there with eucalyptus for bastard trees in a fire.

The front of fire has the most heat and draws in the surrounding air as the heated air rapidly rises.
They are a nasty hazard if you’re on a truck running the front edges of a fire trying to narrow it in.

The last data I saw from the UK indicated that the case fatality rate for Delta was only 1/10th that of the Alpha variant.  It was called ‘Variants of Concern’ or similar.

The data looked OK comparing variants-same population so same vaccination coverage, same timeframe, good sample size.

It seems to be more infectious but I haven’t seen any good data that estimates it.

No, that’s the fully approved version of the Pfizer vax.  It’s not clear if, or how, it’s different from the original version but it’s been differentiated for some reason.  I believe the emergency ruling is still in place for the original one as they want to use up stocks and there’s some issue also about liability for the approved version.  There was a segment on this on the Stew Peters shows recently.

This is a crucial point. Viruses usually mutate to higher infectibility but lessor virulence. If Delta is different then that is fucked and lends further credence, not that we need any, that this is a chunk lab rat. And is that which sticks in my craw. The anti-vaxxers and conspiracy-a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do-crowd always overlook this point: there is still no firm provenance for this fucking virus and whether it is capable of springing more surprises is unknown.

And I repeat about vaccines: the great man Trump got those rolling; big pharma no doubt have played the profit angle and need for top-ups, but I trust Trump who still supports the vaccines. That’s the main upside to this shit-show.

What did it say?  He is one of the few people in politics worth listening to.

No, that’s the fully approved version of the Pfizer vax. It’s not clear if, or how, it’s different from the original version but it’s been differentiated for some reason. I believe the emergency ruling is still in place for the original one as they want to use up stocks and there’s some issue also about liability for the approved version.

No, no, and no. It’s the same Pfizer vaccine. The Comirnaty name was dreamed up for promotional purposes by an advertising firm. It’s a mash-up of “Covid” + “mRNA” + “community”, and is pronounced almost the same as “community”.

Perhaps so, but there is definitely a legal distinction.

Right, so not content with absolving the fucking muzzies from any liability you’re now absolving the fucking chunks. Absolution by bird to the fuck-knuckles of the world.

Since there is no Delta variant nor any evidence for such a unicorn I’d advise people not to build on these pseudo-facts.✅

Lies, damn lies, pseudo-facts and statistics.

Apart from the narrative changing a bit of honesty is emerging as well.  No surprises other than it’s in the usually crap Daily Mail and it’s in print.

    To quote-

NSW Health has switched to recording patients as dying ‘with’ instead of ‘from’ Covid as it acknowledges not all of the country’s 933 deaths were directly linked to the deadly virus.

Dr Jeremy McAnulty made the admission during Sunday’s Covid briefing as the state recorded 1,218 new cases of coronavirus.

Six people died with Covid-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Saturday bringing the total death toll of this outbreak to 89 death since June 16. +7

‘We know when elderly people die, they can have a range of comorbidities, and also, being old increases your risk of death,’ he said.

‘Covid may often play a role in the death, but it may not. Sometimes, some of our cases who have sadly died appear to have recovered from Covid, and then they have died of something [else].

‘We report people who have died “with” Covid, unless there is a very clear alternative.’

He added that it was difficult for doctors who were looking after patients to know exactly how much the virus contributed to their death.

The symbolic change in language comes as NSW Health begins to acknowledge the country’s 933 Covid deaths were not all direct results of the deadly virus.

As explained by Dr McAnulty, some of the deaths previously reported as ‘from Covid’ were actually the consequence of another health condition or the victim had fully recovered from the virus before their death.

But we still need to pump the children with experimental vaccines every six months for the rest of their lives.
