    I miss the holiday homes of my youth

    When I was a kid, (just post the Jurassic,) we were so rich we holidayed in Maroochydore and Mooloolaba. 🙂

    Both resorts then were a couple of beach shanties and a cafe. The one in Mooloolaba served wonderful crushed pineapple drinks. Maroochydore had only the shanties.

    Cheap holidays for Qld workers, along with Urangan, where my brother and my five-year-old self were lured aboard a foreign ship, causing much panic amid the local constabulary.

    (Spoiler alert: we survived.)

    Americans’ holdings of corporate equities and mutual fund shares fell to $33 trillion at the end of the second quarter, down from $42 trillion at the start of the year, according to data from the Federal Reserve. With major market indexes falling even further since early July, and the bond market adding further losses, market experts say the current wealth losses from financial markets could total $9.5 trillion to $10 trillion.

    Dalio tells investors, policymakers to heed UK’s ‘fiscal blunder’

    As UK bonds extended their losses and the pound appears poised to weaken anew, hedge fund billionaire Ray Dalio lashed out at the government’s plan for a debt-funded tax-cutting spree.
    In a series of tweets, Dalio said both investors and policymakers should “heed the lesson of the UK’s policy blunder.

    “The panic selling you are now seeing that is leading to the plunge of UK bonds, currency, and financial assets is due to the recognition that the big supply of debt that will have to be sold by the government is much too much for the demand.
    “That makes people want to get out of the debt and currency. I can’t understand how those who were behind this move didn’t understand that. It suggests incompetence.

    “Mechanistically, the UK government is operating like the government of an emerging country … it is producing too much debt in a currency that there is not a big world demand for.

    “I hope, but doubt, that other policymakers who are doing similar things (i.e. spending more money than they are taking in so that they need to sell a lot of debt they won’t find adequate demand for at current low or negative real interest rates) will recognise that they are risking a similar outcome—and that investors will see this too.”

    I know a lot of TV is just ridiculous but a couple of things I caught yesterday have to be winners.
    National Press Club with angry lessbian Sally McManus who looked nothing like angry lessbian Sally McManus. Nooooo, he/she/it’s had a power makeover and is completely unrecognisable. Oddly there isn’t a single pic on the net but watch out for it if you can.
    On NITV a prog called Occupation: Native, wheeling out all the grievances. Apart from attributing a hut on an island adjacent to PNG to standard living conditions in 1777 Australia, 3 experts (inc Bruce P) saying we’ve been here for 77000, 40000 and 30000 years. No doubt fact checkers approved all 3.
    You lot are lucky you don’t get Imparja. The ad starts “paid actors” with various sad faces saying “I can’t afford to go out bush cos I smoke” or “I can’t play footy anymore cos I smoke”.

    Arky, apparently the BoE intervened as a response to a whole bunch of pension funds becoming technically insolvent without intervention in the bond market.

    The UK mini budget last week stress tested the financial systems, now the BoE is trying to plug the cracks.

    The UK government would be the ultimate guarantor of those pension schemes, so they are making decisions with a large dose of sovereign risk.

    If one pipe blew up, then it’s possibly due to poor construction. There was more than one pipe though, Nord Stream 1 and 2 were both blown up, and I think that Nord Stream 1 had two separate pipes.

    It looks like they were blown up in a joint USA/UK/UKR operation to make sure that Germany doesn’t go against the globalists and make any deals with Russia to turn the gas on again.

    2. The Ukrainians don’t have the capability to blow it up. They didn’t do it.
    3. The Russians wouldn’t want to get rid of their own power to simply turn the thing on or off at will, so they didn’t do it.

    It is interesting as the Yanks would have this area covered by satellites and other types of detection devises ( even seismic would be sensitive enough). If they don’t prove who did it then the culprit is obvious.

    The idea that economic interdependence would ensure world peace and a gradual progression towards a socialist world governance has proven completely wrong.
