An extraordinary intervention from One Nation’s federal leader has seen Mark Latham ejected from his role in New South Wales for “under-performance.”

So the reason the cops took over two hours to respond to Mo, I have a bomb, Abd’alla ( Slave of Allah) was:
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb denied the delay was “too long”. “I don’t think so,” she said. “I think three hours is pretty good. I know it’s pretty terrifying. The protocol in Australia is to negotiate.” On ya Karen.
And there you have it. The ghost of Sheikh Haron (Monis) and Martin Place lives on. Interesting how they have completely taken out any reference to the religion. Just as they did with the Sheikh.
Now wait for all the interviews with moozies and the fear of Slamaphobia.

From the past week there have been some extra bugs in the blog system. I have been trying to trace and debug them. I was able to clear out the problem with the comment box but there are some others still there. I have gone through the code and tested but can’t find the source of the problem. One of these is the sidebar list of Recent comments that has extra spaces between each line. These spaces should not be there and many of you will have noticed this change. There was a Plugin update last week and I think that has caused it bug. There is nothing wrong in our settings codes so it would have to be from WordPress.
I also tried to see why some commenters who have been approved in the past have their comments ending up in moderation but can’t work it out.
Sorry about the bugs. This is an old system using an old theme. I will continue to try to fix or find a solution.
If anyone can suggest what is causing these bugs, I will look into that.

shatterzzz, I thought there may have been some connection to the Greenwich incident. I would agree with Pauline that One Nation shouldn’t be paying the bills. But why did it reach a stage where he is ousted from his role as leader?
Latham made a big mistake in the way he responded to the tweet. When you reach a certain level of public recognition, some restraint before posting instant messages is a necessary trait. The excuse of “but he said” is no justification.
He could have ignored that post and then used it for his own gain, for years to come. Every time Greenwich said something that he wanted to get back at he could have reminded everyone in Parliament and elsewhere that Greenwich had called him “a disgusting human being” and why. He could then show how he was taking the high road and being a supporter of free speech, he (Latham) was not suing Greenwich.
Instead he has put himself on the back foot and is the one facing legal action. There are many ways to speak the truth, make one’s point and get support for it. Stooping into the gutter is not the way, especially when you are in a role of the leader.

Can I see grandpa?
No, he very sick. He got Covid.
But he walked in here.
He sick now. You wear this mask.
What for? I not sick.
Oh yes, you sick. You pass on Covid. Wear mask now. Go home. No touch relatives. Keep mask on.
Can I visit grandpa tomorrow?
No, he too sick.
We only brought him in with his bad heart, like last time.
Oh, he got Covid now. Very sick.
And so on. Not a sick person anywhere. Not a single medical procedure. Looks nothing like a hospital. Just theatre. No wonder SBS bought it with your taxes.

My story
Yesterday I had some bills to pay so went to log in (ANZ). The computer displayed an error message on password so retyped – another error message on discrepancies between number and password. I must have taken too long to study the screen as this was counted as a third log in and I was locked out.
Called on OH to sort out as he has more patience with computer lingo. He spent 20 minutes on hold with horrible music and gave up.
Made another attempt this morning and spent 30 minutes on hold (whilst I read my Ipad) to get a human male who asked for identification numbers that I did not understand. Gave him the debit card number and then the number I usually type to log in. I was then informed that this number does not match my name. No, I said, it is a joint account. Demanded to know my personal number (we both use the same log in). This is apparently a big no-no.
Told him the full names of the account holders – no this does not match. My mobile number is not on their records since the account was opened long before I had a mobile phone.
Handed the phone to OH but bank had hung up.
It is 60 km. to the local branch. Fortunately we do have another bank account and are able to log on there for transactions.
The ANZ has just lost a customer.

Savage $A sell-off catches market off-guard
The market is rushing to reassess its outlook for the Australian dollar after its rapid descent to a nine-month low, as pundits warn the sell-off could intensify amid continued signs of stress in the Chinese economy.
The local currency dropped another 1.3 per cent this week and touched US63.63¢ on Thursday after weaker-than-expected jobs data bolstered the case for the Reserve Bank to keep rates on hold. That marked the currency’s fifth straight week of declines, its longest losing streak since October …

Rise of the ghost college: Thousands of students are enrolled in the city but they aren’t in class
… University of Sydney academic Salvatore Babones says they are likely at work — as these supposed students had always intended to be.
“They are not genuinely studying. They are simply overpaying for a work visa,” he said.
Last year, Babones published a book on Australia’s incredible international student growth and argues that in some cases, the country’s student visa is really playing the part of a low-skill work visa and has become a money spinner for education providers.
“If Australia wants to import low-skill labour from South Asia, it should do it in an honest way,” Babones said. “Charge a reasonable visa fee and admit them to work.” …
