As far as the proposed mandatory passports for using shops is concerned, even with the current system there is already a two tier level of compliance by businesses, at least in my part of the world.
Some go the full Karen, while others operate on a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ basis. I can’t see this changing greatly no matter what system is brought in. There is so much pain out there, in small retailing especially, that the ones who choose not to be police are bound to benefit from customers like me.
For example, I have a choice of two pharmacies, one of each kind. No prizes for guessing which gets my custom. The way they do it, other customers who dutifully comply are unlikely to spot the difference. Same goes for my breakfast cafe choice. And, the large liquor outlet nearby has very sporadic enforcement which is easy to evade.
Sadly for technocrats, the real world is a lot more complicated than their models.

Sadly for technocrats, the real world is a lot more complicated than their models.
Even sadder, the number of inhabitants in the real world who are complying with what they have been told. They were wearing masks and scanning codes long before that was mandatory.
There are businesses who want to get on with their job of selling their wares to their buyers. Including the major supermarkets. Then, some Karen will call talkback radio to complain that Coles at XYZ shopping centre does not check codes, or some pharmacy allows maskless customers or some cafe broke some other rule.
So, to protect their business interests, supermarkets and business are doing as they have been told. Only the brave ones are prepared not to surrender completely.

There have been some here on the Cat saying they have had to take the jab because of workplace pressure.
Can your job be under threat if you don’t get vaxxed? Some of us have posted articles from good sources about how to deal with such a situation.
The following from Michael Smith News:
Employers will have a vaccine-mandate battle because of the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992
《 I refer to the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth).
It’s a federal law that overrides state legislation.
I am mightily disturbed by what has been going on with vaccine mandates and threats that people could be sacked for not taking the vaccine.
The Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act makes it illegal to discriminate against a person in employment because of:
the presence in the body of organisms capable of causing disease or illness;
…
and includes a disability that:
(h) presently exists; or
(i) previously existed but no longer exists; or
(j) may exist in the future (including because of a genetic predisposition to that disability); or
(k) is imputed to a person.
Morrison can always alter the legislation of course but the position right now is clear》

I wondered about the DDA too, in my case re the removal of seating from malls and shops. I have arthritis, and need to sit down occasionally when I am walking around doing my shopping. Going to the mall to do my groceries has become an ordeal, because I have no control over how long I have to stand up (e.g. if there are long queues.)
I daresay there are many others with mobility issues in my or worse situations.
This is surely a breach of the DDA, and as Commonwealth legislation it undoubtedly over-rides regulations made under State legislation.
I have emailed my local mall about this, but have not been favoured with a response.

NewsCorp is complaining about fake news and media spin?
Only because they have been targetted. Otherwise, they have been quite happy to play along with their MSM colleagues in the Covid fake news propaganda.
From SkyNews:
Victoria’s construction worker protests triggered media spin while the ABC pushed conspiracies
《 An attempt to blame the totality of Victoria’s construction worker protests on “right wing agitators” only demonstrates the extend our media class has failed, writes Jack Houghton.
CFMEU boss Dave Noonan told the ABC’s Leigh Sales the protests were caused by “extreme right Neo-Nazi groups” ………..
One moment the protesters are his members, the next they are radical Nazis who have nothing to do with him.
It is embarrassing that some in the media swallowed his words whole.
But that’s not even the worst of the media coverage.
On ABC’s Afternoon Briefing on Wednesday, academic Greg Barton was blaming the “Murdoch” press for the protests.
The full segment can be watched here at roughly the 40-minute mark.
And soon Twitter was trending with the #MurdochRiots, an example of how the ABC can be responsible for directing misinformation and hatred at journalists from crazed Twitter numpties. 》

Oversupply of Produce
《We all like a bargain but do you ever wonder how much you should be paying for your food so the person producing it is making money?
Recently avocados have been advertised for as little as $1 each, which is great for shoppers but not so great for growers like Russell Delroy.
To complete this year’s harvest, Mr Delroy has paid to bring in 70 workers from the Pacific Islands under the Commonwealth’s Seasonal Worker Program.
According to the West Australian government, it costs between $7,500 and $8,500 to host each worker in hotel quarantine.
For Mr Delroy, it’s meant a total outlay of $400,000, including $175,000 for hotel quarantine, $105,000 for flights and $120,000 in wages for a new staff member to manage the workers.
That’s before he pays the workers’ wages and superannuation.
So, back to the question about how much consumers should be paying for growers to make money?
According to Mr Delroy, at $1 an avocado, he’s losing money, at $1.50 he’s breaking even and at $2 he’s making “quite reasonable profits” 》

Oh, and while on the subj. of the DDA, I notice that our disability ‘advocates’ lined up with all the other ‘advocates’ who are supposedly looking out for various disadvantaged groups and civil liberties.
They have been complaining and lobbying non-stop for disabled people to ‘get the jab(s)’ ASAP. That is the totality of their engagement with COVID as a rights issue.
They apparently know best, as the question of consent or whether there are any other options has simply never been raised, by any of them.

It may be a good idea to print the Spectator DDA article and carry it around.
No one is quite sure of how the Act can be applied and what are the exemptions. If anyone (employer, shopping centre, hospital, other public facilities) attempts to discriminate against the unjabbed, they might be careful about their restrictions if they realise that what they are doing may be illegal.

I’m sitting here in my motel room having a reflective sherbert, while outside the proprietress and a couple of her (male) pals are doing weightlifting training in the parking lot. A lot of grunting and banging accompanied by music.
One of them is her boyfriend – he owns a gym. I get the feeling that this helps to keep both these small business owners sane.
There is plenty of room in the lot because this business is running on empty, has been for months, as are all the other motels. We get the odd travelling tradie or gubbmint worker, but quite often I am the only guest.
Supposedly I am looking for a place to buy, having sold my old joint because it was no longer suitable for a person with arthritis (stairs, lawn etc) and because the market was hot and I got a lot of money for it.
Paradoxically, while some parts of the economy are on their knees, at best, other parts are booming. The property market is one of them.
It can’t last, because every day the real economy is bleeding to death. But for the moment, COVID restrictions make selling a very unpleasant experience (you have to sit in your car in the street while two people at a time inspect your home) and some people simply have to buy, or be homeless with kids. The rental market is desperate. So there is not much for sale, and what there is is expensive.
My own situation is OK, compared to many. I have money in the bank and could live here for years. I do miss my books and music and would like to be able to rustle up a snack instead of having to buy every meal. Also, the TV here – for some reason – does not have all the FTA channels, including the one with Barnwood Builders, although it does have FOXTEL, which I’ve never watched.
Compared to the anguish that is being experienced by untold others, it’s nothing. But I do have the sense of dislocation that people talk about when major calamities like war and revolution are happening.
There is something surreal about this world – within a couple of years, everything has changed beyond recognition. I can’t visit any of my relatives, or they me. If my father, who is in his 90s and lives in one of the leper colonies in Sydney, were to drop off the twig I wouldn’t be able to go to his funeral. I can’t visit with any of my friends locally, as most of them are in Canberra and they now have border checks to make sure no unauthorised contacts occur. The ones here can only visit a nominated person, and understandably they favour their immediate family.
Luckily I am not very extroverted, it must be agony for those who are.
What depresses me most is how those who claim to be on the side of the underdog rolled over and became the underdog with nary a whimper. The civil liberties groups, the disability advocates, the child protection lobby, Aboriginal rent seekers – you name it, they fell into line. In fact, many of them expressed their advocacy by demanding that their ‘clients’ be jabbed without further delay and discussion. That was the extent of their ‘advocacy.’ It has certainly reminded us of the symbiotic relationship between the State and lobbyists of all kinds.
Anyway, over to you. I appreciated Adam sharing what has happened to him and his family, and the context.

NSW to make ‘difficult’ decision around unvaccinated residents
Gladys Berejiklian is facing opposition from within her own cabinet over her reluctance to give back freedoms to those who are unvaccinated.
《 Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s seeming reluctance to give freedoms back to those who are unvaccinated is already meeting resistance from her own ministry.
Treasurer Dominic Perrottet told 2GB’s Joe Hildebrand the government would announce shortly what would occur at 80 per cent vaccinated but said he didn’t think unvaccinated people should be subject to restrictions indefinitely.
“Once every single person in this state has had the opportunity to be vaccinated then we should open up for everyone,” Mr Perrottet said.
“I want to see more unity and not a two-tiered society.
“It’s not the government’s role to provide freedom. People born in this country by default are free.”
Ms Berejiklian has reiterated that unvaccinated residents won’t be freed from lockdown when the state hits its 80 per cent vaccination goal.
She said officials were working on determining when unvaccinated residents can participate in the extra freedoms vaccinated people will enjoy at that 80 per cent mark. 》

It takes about 3 hours now just to get up to speed with what’s happening or not in the world by reviewing the trusted websites. Got to confess I’m a bit bemused that people are being more than pleasant to border guards and such, offering them biscuits. It’s perfectly OK to be ignorant of the actual facts but it is a normie’ duty to make these unpleasant interactions. Why converse in pleasantries? Why not “you do know you’re acting illegally?” Or “you do know masks cause cancer?” “Your mask is riddled with harmful bacteria and viruses. Keep your distance. You might not know that but I do. You’re a walking disease factory.”
No social niceties, no pleases or thank yous, no conversation as such. Single word responses are best. “Why do you want to know that?” Document their name, tell them you can’t understand because of the mask muffling effect and ask them to pull down their mask and speak clearly. Film the interaction if you like. These people are not your friends. They should go home dreading work tomorrow. Parting shot – “send that mask to the lab, see how many nasty germs you’re breathing in.”

And… Kamala Harris joins The View from somewhere else in the building when 9 min left in the hour. Harris wearing a consumer earpiece instead of an IFB.
Goes on to suggest various possibilities – not ready, mask not fitting properly, set up from the start. One thing to be sure is they aren’t telling us the truth.

Could be a magpie Johanna. Previous Cafe Bruce house magpie used to do a perfect dog barking call. And the northern female has stolen several songs from grey butcherbirds and honeyeaters.

Magpies are excellent mimics – not only of sounds, but also of speech. I mentioned some years ago – 2015, I think – an old bloke at Nabiac in NSW who had a magpie that he’d taught to speak. That is, the magpie mimicked words and phrases – the same as a cocky does.
