Twostix’s ” demented ravings” are usually pretty close to the mark for a young whipper-snapper. Certainly streets ahead of you.

    Numero 6:

Victorians have been plunged into a 7-daysnap lockdown from 8pm tonight, as the state grapples with growing cases of Covid-19.
Residents will only be able to leave their home for five reasons – being to shop for essentials, for authorised work or permitted education, to provide care and for medical and compassionate reasons, to get vaccinated or tested and to exercise for a maximum of two hours.
Six locally transmitted cases of the virus were confirmed on Thursday morning, with three of those infections under investigation, sending contact tracers scrambling.
Two more cases, which have not been included in today’s numbers, were also announced, bringing the total number of new cases to eight.
The rise in cases sparked an urgent meeting between Victorian government officials and health authorities on Thursday afternoon.
It is understood the 8pm commencement of the state’s latest lockdown is in an attempt to stop groups gathering at hospitality and other venues on a usually busy Thursday night.

While I don’t for a moment not share the anger of people here who are furious about what is happening, I have also been reminding myself of history via a bit of reading and some splendid TV series which are now available on youtube.

Firstly, perfidy by politicians, including those who called themselves kings and queens and emperors and so on, is not a glitch – it’s a feature. We should not think that we are in the End Times because we have recently discovered this.

Secondly, the tendency of the masses to behave badly when frightened or persuaded is not new either. All this crap about the death of ‘mateship’ is nonsense. Australians are no better or worse than other Western countries, by and large. The US is a bit of an outlier because it is so large and so diverse – in a good way.

Thirdly, we are a long way from the real fears of catastrophe which faced our ancestors even three generations ago. I mean our ancestors in Europe in particular, who mostly lived in a seemingly endless chess game in which they were the easily sacrificed pawns.

Our society is still functioning, there is plenty of food, the infrastructure works for the most.

I am not for a moment belittling the real challenges we face, but a bit of historical perspective is needed. A hundred and fifty years ago, European peasants and small businesses were routinely crushed, raped and pillaged via the unending wars. The brutality was appalling.

I absolutely agree that we should fight the new totalitarianism tooth and nail, but the idea that there is something new about all this is akin to defeatism.

    As The Who righteously said:

    Meet the new boss
    Same as the old boss.

Lake Macquarie Council, one of the most hideously, rancorous green councils in this country has just issued another edict/report on sea level rise around the Newcastle area. They did this before in 2103 with the result that landowners in affected areas had houses which lost value and which could not be used as collateral. The council had posted signs on trees 2-3 meters above the ground supposedly indicating how much sea level would rise despite their own IPCC source saying the maximum would be .9 meters.

In 2013 I gave a talk at a meeting attended by landowners and various swampies from the LMC. The swampies were outraged I produced evidence to show not only had their been no increase in sea level rise but no sea level rise at all.

That evidence consisted of a study:

Is There Evidence Yet of Acceleration in Mean Sea Level Rise around Mainland Australia?
    P. J. Watson
    Journal of Coastal Research (2011) 27 (2): 368–377.

    And reference to the PSMSL:

    https://www.psmsl.org/data/obtaining/

Since then the BoM’s ongoing study, Pacific Sea Level and Geodetic Monitoring Project which measures sea level in <i.Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Niue, Palau, Nauru, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu has confirmed there is NO sea level rise around the coast of Australia.

Also, if you have s close look at the footage of the lockdown protests in Melbourne, for instance, all the way back to last year, a disproportionate number of the protesters were Boomers. Grandmums being arrested has been an ongoing example covered by Avi Yemeni.

Conversely, 90% of the marchers at the BLM and “Climate Change Catastrophe (the flip side of the Covid coin), have been Millenials, Gen Zeds, and schoolkids.

Look upper class boomer women who are determined to turn every conservative site into a sewing circle, you are the ones lacking perspective here.

Me and my children have had around three months robbed off our lives sitting around under house arrest, and 18 months robbed lingering between house arrest periods. All done to us so you can continue to take your bloated carb-overloaded bodies shopping
    ——————————————————–

I am not upper class, I have no interest in sewing, and your fixation on ‘boomers’ absent the possibility of any other factors is absurd.

Like any other crisis, COVID has laid a pathway for fanatics to channel their grievances. It’s a golden opportunity to blame whoever you hated in the first place.

Unfortunately for twostix, and me, boomers are rarely in positions of power these days. We are too old. We are retired, past it, or gone to God.

Those of us who are still around do own substantial assets, thanks to a lifetime of work and some good luck. As we have seen, attacks on those selfish old buggers clogging up the real estate market are a very hardy perennial at left wing sites.

You are apparently visually challenged, if the people you see on TV announcing the latest atrocities are Boomers.

    Get you glasses checked.

Do you need an incentive to get a Covid vaccine?
    🔲 Yes, a one-off cash payment
🔲 Yes, more freedom and privileges for the double-jabbed

With regards the first – where does the government get the money? Really – they tax you and then if you obey they will give the back the money you already had.

With regards the second – there is a difference between the government protecting our rights and the government dispensing them, as if they are a gift from them. Do you really want that as an established principle? Further, you might be OK with what the government is telling you to do this time, but one time they will demand something you are not inclined to part with.

If you are a lefty at least consider it might be a LNP government, and if you are a righty that it could be a Labor/Greens OR LNP government. But having accepted the idea that government can take away rights for what their agenda has decided we the rest of us must do it will be too late to complain.

The reason being is the boomers are the “seniors”of this nation right now.
    Responsibility , peoples.
    Do something.

Still young enough to do something, but aren’t.
Unfortunately a dribbling cretin like Notafan is generation X.
Boomers, Horrified if someone thinks this may require more than putting your sitting member last.
Look at Frank’s response to all of this.
Like Notafan they are classic examples of why we have so far lost 18 months of our lives in prison while being innocent of no charges.
Maybe if you suck hole scum had decided to show the government you would not be told to turn your back on those that died for your freedom and attend ANZAC day , you filthy scum shit, we would be in a whole different world right now.
Lizzie, telling me to talk to a doctor/scientist is not proving Covid is killing where the flu wouldn’t, you PROVE IT.
You obviously have talked to your scientific equals who between you all, know all.
    So prove it.
    Prove it exists.
Any of you please prove to us that what the government is telling us is fact.
No piffy “talk to someone ” answer.
Prove what they are saying is not lies.
    Prove it.

Correct, but only one politician. Scotty Mengelson, who stuffed up the supply of vaccines by putting all his eggs in the AstraZeneca basket. Then twisted the arms of the ATAGI members to agree to under 60s receiving AZ. This young woman’s death is on his hands.

she does have a point, Stix

just yesterday I was on site and a bug-farm (no, I’m not joking) and there’s a guy there who can be rather vocal about his doubts and misgivings regarding the pandemical and vax-clinations.

anyway, there’s been a new influx of biological grad-students all keen to save the planet and they weren’t happy about the guy’s outspokeness.

    So they complained to management
