Western Media Shaping Gaza Narrative With Deception and Lies

We rely on the media to provide us with the news. We assume that they are out there on the streets getting the stories, researching, investigating, verifying and then putting it together for us in the various mediums – print, online, multimedia. We trust them to give us the confirmed version of events and incidents.

But in the past few years, especially starting with the Covid scamdemic, sections of the community have woken up to the realisation that the media, as an entity, cannot be trusted to provide us with the facts. In the past year, with the conflict in Gaza, it seems as if the media have sunk to new lows in their deceptive and false news reporting.

The public have been deceived – they get fake news from the media and repeat the falsehoods. If they knew the facts, would they still support the actions of Israel? Some may do so, just like the ones who still wear masks. But there would be others who would be shocked by the reality and realise that they have been misled. It used to be interesting listening to different viewpoints on talkback radio, but now, when it is a discussion on the Middle East conflict, it is a section of the brainwashed listeners repeating the media narrative: beheaded babies, mass rapes, tunnels under hospitals and schools, human shields, the only democracy in the Middle East. Along with the unsolicited advice that Australians should support Israel.

Instead of  relying on news from the Mainstream Media (MSM), the Alternative Media (Alt Media) or the Conservative Media (Con Media), we need to consider other options. If you are someone who applies reason and prefers data and evidence so that you can analyse the details and reach conclusions that are logical not biased, seek other sources for your news. The truth is available if we know where to look. It is the smaller independent media outlets, little known blogs and sites, as well as the accounts of citizen journalists on social media sites who have no hidden agenda except finding and sharing evidence-based news.

In this thread, I want to post content related to the media role in the spread of lies, fake news and deception about the events of 7 October 2023, and in the year that followed. The obvious bias that has been used to make a case that was supportive of the actions of Israel, while portraying all Palestinians in a negative light.

I am pulling together information that has already been posted or new material. Bringing it all under one thread will help to show how the collective media (Western and Israeli) have spun a tale to convince their gullible readers and audiences that falsehoods are the truth. Like those who continue to wear porous masks believing that they are being protected from a non-virus, there will be some who will persist in their belief that the media outlets they follow are relaying to them confirmed, objective facts, not biased reports which are just following the editorial policy decisions of their employers.

If you have links to content that shows the media fabrications and deception when they have been reporting on this conflict in Gaza (and now extending to other parts of the Middle East), share them here. It will make it easy to locate and pass on this information to others, if it is under one thread.

An example of the western media reporting on the Hamas attack on 7 October  2023.
We’ll get to the facts, with links to articles and videos, in the comments section.

I had not planned to begin the comments in this thread with this. But I have just come across these videos and cannot bypass them.

When doctors who are used to seeing patients who are ill, wounded and dying in their daily work in clinics and hospitals are in tears, or close to tears, while speaking about their experiences in Gaza, we have to take notice of what they are saying.

I thought what I was seeing on social media (which provides footage and news of what is taking place) was heartbreaking. But even that is not close to reality.

This video is 6.18 minutes. Watch and listen carefully to what Dr Ahmad Yousaf, a doctor who volunteered in Gaza, is saying and pay attention to the final minute.

    Dr. Ahmad Yousaf

Everything I saw on TikTok and Instagram and all the Telegram, all the stuff we had from alternative media because you can’t be there. It was 100 times worse than it could have ever imagined.

I have no ties. I’m not from there. I have no blood there….

I have no ties to Gaza either. I’m not from there. No blood connections to that place.
So why does this matter to me?

Inside Western media’s reporting on Gaza

When political leaders speak of genocide, they repeat a timeworn mantra: “Never again.”

Over the past year, for the Palestinians of Gaza, “again” has become reality – mass casualties broadcast almost in real time by its victims.

This film is about an alternative version of that reality – the one told by major Western news organisations – and how it has provided cover for Israel’s war on Gaza.

Based on interviews with more than a dozen insiders, it lifts the curtain on the inner workings of agenda-setting outlets like CNN, the BBC and The New York Times.

How the Media Became a Weapon in the Gaza Genocide

Western journalists have blood on their hands.

The role of the media in covering one of the most one-sided, destructive and grotesque assaults in recent memory hasn’t simply been to conceal its excesses from its audience (though maintaining political docility has certainly seemed an imperative). Rather, by careful framing, selective omission and the strategic deployment of a sheen of ‘objectivity’, the media has functioned as an actor in this war. Not, of course, as a combatant, but as something far more valuable than mere human lives to a state wishing to hide its crimes behind the lie of a modern, progressive democracy: a weapon.

From the BBC to CNN, from The New York Times to The Guardian, outlet after outlet has made itself a strategic asset, both for Benjamin Netanyahu’s genocidal regime, and for the western powers urgently seeking to maintain the status quo in the region, no matter the cost.

    Extraordinary Claims, Zero Evidence

One case in point is the claim that, during their incursion into southern Israel, Hamas fighters stopped to round up, kill and mutilate 40 Israeli babies, beheading them and leaving their bodies behind….

Extraordinary claims should require extraordinary evidence, and a story like this should have been met with serious skepticism, given who was making the claim. The first question any reporter should have asked was, “Where is the evidence?” Given multiple opportunities to stand by it, the IDF continually distanced itself from the claims. Nevertheless, the story was simply too useful not to publish.

American journalist decries Western media’s ignoring of Israel’s war crimes

‘I think the biggest problem with Western media is more in what they don’t show than in what they do show,’ says Max Blumenthal

The true face of Israel’s war on Gaza is hidden from Western public opinion through the Western media’s ignoring of Israel’s attacks and war crimes, according to a US journalist.

“On Oct. 7, the Western media did not show the losses that the Israeli military took at the hands of Hamas and other factions in Gaza. They focused exclusively on civilians being kidnapped and then began with not just the killings that took place of civilians on Oct. 7, which were real and documented, but fabricating atrocities about beheaded babies and babies burned in ovens, and so on, in order to create leverage and political space for Israel to totally destroy Gaza,” said Blumenthal.

What American physicians and nurses saw firsthand in Gaza should inform the United States’ Gaza policy. The lethal combination of what Human Rights Watch describes as indiscriminate military violence, what Oxfam calls the deliberate restriction of food and humanitarian aid, near-universal displacement of the population, and destruction of the health care system is having the calamitous effect that many Holocaust and genocide scholars warned of nearly a year ago.

At a time when reliable information is more critical than ever, the restrictions on foreign reporting undermine the very foundation of press freedom and democratic accountability,” wrote the members.

In July, over 70 media and civil society organizations signed an open letter calling on Israel to grant journalists access to Gaza. Yet foreign media remains largely prohibited from entering the region, except for a few controlled trips arranged by the Israeli military. This effective ban on foreign reporting has placed an overwhelming burden on local journalists who are documenting the war they are living through. Tragically, at least 130 journalists have lost their lives since the start of the war, and those who remain face conditions of extreme hardship and danger.

“We were here at the hospital working, treating patients and then the [Israeli] video came out,” said Dr Omar Mneimne, speaking to The National from an operating theatre. “Obviously, we [have been] living in terror for the past 24 hours.”

The hospital is independently run, but Hezbollah invited the media on a tour in a bid to refute the Israeli claims. Israel did not directly say the hospital would be attacked, instead stoking tensions by calling on Lebanese people to go there and retrieve their money.

The medical team worked for seven hours overnight to move patients to hospitals across the region that could care for their specific conditions.

“I don’t know what to say,” said another doctor, Mohamed Zaraket. “You saw the hospital. It’s a hospital for the Lebanese people, not for any political side. It was a shock for us.”
