Potentially The New Cat – First Open Thread 31 July 2021

Hi Cats,

As you can see I have created a copy of the Cat for you to continue to bicker, argue and occasionally make a reasonable point.

I do hope a solution is found with the original Cat but just in case Sinc doesn’t want to transfer the site to a new generation I have built a replica before the closure so we can migrate as many of the community across as possible.

Programming Note: I rushed out the site so there will be bugs. I can get them fixed but did not want perfection to get in the way for progress.

Community Note: Please let as many cats know of the new blog as soon as possible so we can capture the magic of the original. In particular would love for the original posters to continue their great work here.

Ideological Note: I am an infrequent poster but long time reader of the Cat. The discussions there have been a huge part of my own ideological growth on many issues. In particular free speech is key for me so will have a very similar light touch to the original Cat, potentially adopting my one policy on an earlier forum I built: “No D***heads” which is subjective but surprisingly easy to implement.

Website Note: I will run the Cat as close to possible as the original because I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel. However if the community so wants I am happy to make changes to improve the experience so if you have any ideas let me know. For anything specific hit me up at the contact form, else go nuts in the comments.

For what purpose? Come up with a reasonable easy to understand purpose that the Western governments want to keep an eye on sayspring break backpackers from the US making their way through Europe. Go!”

In Qld, the Public Health and Other Legislation (Further Extension of Expiring Provisions) Amendment Bill 2021 extends a range of emergency measures, including the extraordinary powers of the Chief Health Officer, Dr Jeannette Young.

The powers include the ability to impose restrictions on the free movement of citizens, their ability to travel, conduct a business, attend school, church or sport, as well as the power to issue mandates on mask wearing, social distancing rules, the numbers of persons who can gather at any one time, border closures, area lockdowns and quarantine mandates.

The Bill also extends emergency measures, and creates new ones.

It will only require an amendment will allow the sharing of vaccination data and allow authorised persons, which will be such a wide definition as to include my dog, to enquire and if necessary compel you to display your vaccination status. Failure to do so will be an offence.

Struth, linking to Facebook is useless for those who don’t join Facebook.

Maybe a short summary of what is in the link would help discussion flow.

I’ve just returned from Redfern/Surrey Hills. Fixed one son’s internet problems with a Telstra mini-modem I purchased for $50 in Coles. It has 4GB on it. He can top it up after that. It seems to have settled him down, along with the Suchi I brought for lunch.

Had a walk with my other son living in that area inner-city area. We did social distancing and sat for quite a while having a chat. On the way we walked by a decrepit old denizen of the area puffing his fag as he was walking along. He blew it straight into my face. For the first time ever it made me wish I was wearing a facemask as the smoke went into my nose and lungs. Wouldn’t have stopped any virus but might have filtered the TB bascillus and smoke particles.

Lucky I’ve had my BCG innoculation vs TB years ago. It is long-lasting. Anyway, when I was fifteen (age up to 17) I worked as a doctor’s helper and receptionist out West. Careful sterilizing that lot, Lizzie, he said to me casually, as I did the usual part of my job. It’s got live TB on it. So I probably was exposed to that long ago 🙂

I received 4 speeding tickets in the mail today. All for doing between 46 and 48 in a 40km school zone. Total of $820 and 8 points. Pretty shocking trip to the mail box. The thing is. The fines are from July 14th to July 18th. I have the Service NSW app. All the fines have been on there for 2 weeks. I receive multiple texts about Covid lockdowns, and other NSW government announcements. I got one a month before my rego was due. Now, it seems to me that the government could organise a text as soon as fine is processed by them. You know, fine received, Waitara, 46 in a 40 school zone, 248pm 14th July, Rego etc. It just gives you a heads up and allows you to modify your behaviour. Basically, the roads are so empty it is a bit easy to speed becuase you almost have the Pacific Hwy to yourself.. Anyway, 820 bucks………….

At federal level, the Biosecurity Act enables the government to impose medical treatment on any person to protect the broader community. The law is explicit in saying this extends to requiring a person to receive “a specified vaccination”. Refusing to do so can attract five years in jail.

Reading this makes me think there are going to be a lot of deaths if they go ahead with their “specified vaccinations”. Choice : die by injection or die in prison (or those concentration/quarantine camps)

Yesterday I was staggered at the hostility of a Sydney “friend” who abused me for being a stupid “anti-vaxer”.

…Your ex-friend was right. There are no valid arguments for being anti-vaccination.
    ***************
Vicki admits to “vaccine scepticism”, commonly used to describe doubts about COVID vaccine. It doesn’t mean necessarily being “anti” even those vaccines, let alone all vaccines – often it just means being against compulsion to take any of those vaccines, or personal reluctance to get any of them, or both.
    Someone labels her an “anti-vaxer”.
So Terry Pedersen drops in for one of his trademark drive-by sneers.
So is Terry saying there’s no excuse for being “sceptical” in any sense, e.g. as I’ve outlined above, of COVID vaccines? Or is he leaping to the conclusion, on the basis of a reported accusation, that Vicki is “anti” all vaccines?
Either way it’s a first class display of wrongology.

Well, we can change sites, but Terry is still a self-beclownment MACHINE!!!!

JC – I have already said I don’t think this is accurate. Global tracking is impractical. It would require vast resources and an unimaginable level of co-operation between nations. Even friendly nations would baulk.

Swapping relatively small data sets between the Five Eyes countries consumes substantial resources. Imagine increasing that 1000 fold or probably more. Ha. Set aside the political nitro.

Limited data on specific individuals is routinely exchanged between friendly nations. Eligibility confirmation for visa on arrival is a good example and used every day. I was referring to the wholesale exchange of detailed whole-of-population data which is an entirely different issue. Vast….beyond vast…..enormous…..gigantic and at an incalculable cost.

From what I understand, at least in Australia, Medicare has your vaccine records. You get the Medicare app on your smartphone to generate a Covid vaccine only report in a PDF type image after you have had the 2nd shot. You then ask the Medicare app to stick it in your Apple or android wallets. A business wants to see it, you can flash the image, but it don’t give them access to anything else as it is just a verified image. The business can’t get any data on you.

I guess the more paranoid can try to forge it, but I am not sure how that would get into the wallet on your phone.
