I’ve switched over to the first one – Startpage. Don’t know if there’s any fiddling with how the listings take place. It feeds from Booooooooogle, so that may be affected. But it’s supposed to be privacy focussed – that is a plus point.

    That is a perceptive statement.

    Telstra – pricks.

I made a mistake 2 months ago trying to pay the arrears on my new Telstra bill before being cut off. Trying to ensure the payment was immediate.

Using the MyTelstra App I tried to use their option of “One Off Direct Debit”. Loaded the details including bank account but nothing happened about amount etc. Paid the overdue amount by BPay instead.

Next thing I know the “One Off Direct Debit” means a recurring direct debit to my bank account whenever a bill is due.

Off to their App to view “payment options” and selected “cancel direct debit”. “We can’t cancel your direct debit at the moment try again later”. This went on for weeks. Same message when I tried to change the bank account details (to an empty one).

Got online to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO). Response was quick – referred to Telstra to be resolved. Action later if no response from Telstra. Contacted by Telstra and direct debit was eventually cancelled – no explanation about failure to do this via their App/Website.

Before this was resolved I had an unrelated email from Telstra about my Plan (no device owed, just service). I think this was because I was on their system as “direct debit”.

Changed Plan was to bring forward due date for bills by two weeks and charge in advance for the next month – offering a $10 monthly discount A nice little cash flow boost from customers who happen to be on direct debit.

Telstra Shop employee confirmed that anyone upgrading for a new phone to pay monthly will be required to sign up for direct debit and pay the monthly amount in advance.

I understand Optus are doing the same – monopoly?

Toad, years ago I bought a modem from Telstra, cost about $400. The one they sent me didn’t work, so I called them and they agreed to send me another – which then appeared on my next bill as 2 modems, $800. It took me numerous phone calls and about 4 months to get a credit, plus since I refused to pay the second charge they kept cutting my internet off because computer says I am $400 in arrears.

Their billing system has always sucked – when I worked in the Communications Department more than 20 years ago, we had one guy who did nothing but deal with complaints to the Minister about it. Pretty much every complaint turned out to be valid.

Seeing as the Quad had been in the headlines, interesting the history:

The Quad ceased following the withdrawal of Australia during Kevin Rudd’s tenure as prime minister, reflecting ambivalence in Australian policy over the growing tension between the United States and China in the Asia-Pacific. Following Rudd’s replacement by Julia Gillard in 2010, enhanced military cooperation between the United States and Australia was resumed, leading to the placement of U.S. Marines near Darwin, Australia, overlooking the Timor Sea and Lombok Strait. Meanwhile, India, Japan, and the United States continued to hold joint naval exercises under Malabar.

During the 2017 ASEAN Summits in Manila, all four former members led by Abe, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and US President Donald Trump agreed to revive the quadrilateral alliance in order to counter China militarily and diplomatically in the “Indo-Pacific” region, particularly in South China Sea. Tensions between Quad members and China have led to fears of what was dubbed by some commentators as “a new Cold War” in the region.

The Kill Shot, the Money Ball or whatever you want to call it. It is just devastating to the immune system, and I’ll tell you why. If you look at the recent Stanford study, and I am just going to read a couple of sentences from the Stanford study: ‘The spike protein in the CV19 vaccines that everyone is talking about is called the Lentivirus. The Lenti contains a combination of HIV, types one through three, SRV/1, which is AIDS, MERS and SARS.’

In the Stanford study, the best-known Lentivirus is the human immune deficiency pathogen, which causes AIDS. This is why we are seeing autoimmune and neurodegenerative decline after the Covid 19 (Vax), especially the booster…It permanently changes the genome of the cell. That is why this is so terrifying to us in the medical community. We just don’t know how to attack this.
