    https://www.spiked-online.com/2022/05/13/elon-musk-and-the-battle-for-control-of-the-internet/

    An extract.

We’ve all enjoyed the meltdown over Elon Musk’s buyout of Twitter. Celebs have stomped off Twitter in a huff at the horrific prospect of a tad more free speech on the platform. Commentators have exhausted their thumbs by scouring their thesauruses for the most shrill language with which to denounce Musk’s racist / supremacist / fascistic decision to dig his claws into social media. Campaigners have wailed that Musk’s takeover may be good news for the ‘most deceitful political smut peddlers’ but it’s dreadful for the rest of us. It might even kill us. Musk-owned Twitter will be ‘lethal’ says the Guardian’s George Monbiot. That’s lethal as in ‘sufficient to cause death’. To the bunker!

It has been a hoot. Snowflakes melting at the dawn of a potential new era of freer tweeting – what’s not to like? And yet it might now be time to park the Schadenfreude. Because behind all these enjoyable temper tantrums, behind all the memeable hissy fits thrown by freedom-fearing influencers, something very serious is taking place. We are witnessing nothing less than a battle for control of the internet. It isn’t only the usual suspects of the cancel-culture mob and Current Thing celebs who are dismayed at Musk’s modest proposal to permit more speech online. So are government figures, globalist technocrats and well-funded political campaign groups. And there’s nothing funny about these people’s agitation against Musk.

What a day. Just left SE Qld and had to travel to parts unnamed and watching the weather for a week or two with great interest. Sometimes I think I have a guardian angel watching over me cos could have gone several routes, each with it’s own perils but managed to pick the best. Could have gone via Warwick or Sunny Coast which was not dissimilar but decided for over the range, just bypassing Toowoomba. Let me tell you it was still pretty horrendous with visibility down to 100m, worsened by overtaking trucks and cars with no lights on, completely unaware of their invisibility. The top of the Great Dividing Range was driving in cloud and, towing a load, scary, but made me one of the slowcoaches with no idea where the next rise, turn or dip might be. I guess folks up there know the roads far better and plough on regardless. It was joyous to leave it behind and just plod along, marveling at the greenery in all directions where normally it would be dry. In the distance I saw the sun breaking through and wrongly thought it would be a much easier trip thereon. Hah! Showers, low cloud, simply terrible roads with patchwork repairs and a desperate eye on the next little town with a motel welcoming weary travelers. All closed!
Used to the vagaries of Australian weather I had gathered a few essentials for a night or two in a truck rest area but the weather closed in each time and, while once I wouldn’t have baulked at it, I’m older now and just couldn’t face a cold, damp might in a swag on the ground with 12 hours of night. So I’ve booked in for a night in a motel, on dark, f**k the cost. Naturally mein host is Chinee.
While I’ve been able to avoid the worst of the Convid rules over the last two years through monumental life changes, the most simple of routine tasks has been, as you know, turned into a expedition, most recently my blood pressure medications being out of stock or in short supply. “Is my time up?” I was seriously thinking, albeit a purposeful act by gummint!
Well, I may as well live a little and tick a few more boxes on the bucket list. You can’t just up and leave what has become your normal existence, you need the right vehicle, the increasingly hard to find right place to go and the right little pieces to make it all come together. What was once a mere formality has become the most difficult endeavour. A replacement part for the evil internal combustion engine has taken two months! The garage to replace said part had a Convid closure and the mechanic had a week in hospital with what sounded like a vax injury. But the mechanical part eventually fell into place and everything else was upended because of the delay.
In the exasperation you’ve all endured the last two years my little guardian angel guided me to a a Gumtree search and there it was. Middle of nowhere, place you’ve likely never heard of but absolutely famous for something iconic and truly Aussie. Bing, bang, bong, it’s mine and I’ve got two weeks to make it happen. That was two weeks ago and not a day went by without me saying to myself, “not going to happen”.
Had a fallback plan to temporarily reside with a dear old friend who trusts gummints and the media implicitly and has lined up for the series of vaxxes and, guess what, now has a minor, persistent problem that she would have shrugged off with a heathy immune system. As do several other friends and acquaintances. As predicted by the banished.
Sorry about the rant, I’m well and truly and deservedly pissed as I usher in my new life. The available TV channels have gone from 20 to 5! Even worse, the 5 MSM ones!!!
Another tortuous few hundred kms tomorrow and likely for 2 more days. Many years ago I moved from Broome to Katherine in late December. The blackest of wet seasons and I was in a Willy’ Jeep. No roof, doors or any type of protection and no alternative. Cloudbursts to my left and right all the way but it was like the Almighty had ordained a clear path on the actual road for my trip and as I rolled out my swag for the night I just knew someone up there liked me and would see I was OK. And so it was. I actually slept terribly because pet dingo was alarmed several times each night by a clap of thunder only a short distance away. Drag it into the swag and listen to the symphony that a wet season is and drift into slumber til the next thunderclap.
Yep, up North for “Winter” though I swore I’d never do another wet season. They’ll never find me up there. I could murder a bar of chocolate right about now. Might even see the sun late tomorrow.

Humans are causing the ocean to lose its memory, study shows: “It’s almost as if the ocean is developing amnesia”

Unlike weather, which can change wildly and rapidly day-to-day, Earth’s oceans usually only have slight changes throughout the week. This persistence is called “memory” and is related to the thickness of the ocean’s top mixed layer. Similar to how a thicker mattress provides better cushioning, a thicker sea surface layer allows for a better memory because of the thermal inertia at play.

But as global warming increases and the ocean temperature rises, that top layer thins out. And like a thinning mattress, the support, or in this case the year-to-year “memory,” weakens.
“It’s almost as if the ocean is developing amnesia,” study lead author Hui Shi said.

Are you better or worse off after 12 years of Liberal rule?

How the Coalition has changed Australia. We’re fatter, richer, more likely to have a job and live longer – but after 12 years of the Coalition, more of are us in poverty. See how you’ve fared.

You left out the most hysterical proof yet, from an advert from the leader of “The New Liberals” running for the seat of North Sydney.

I checked the bio of that poster Steven Hopley

    3:05 Welcome to Pyatigorsk. Again

13:06 The Immortal Regiment – event in memory of fallen relatives during the WW2

This is disgusting, evil stuff. The manipulation of children through music and cartoon imagery.

And a criminal who needs to face the Nuremberg trial is treated like a champion. The sooner the Pfizer fraud can be revealed through the legal process, the sooner can we save our children.

This keeps me up at night.

Yeah. The supra-liminal gay is a bit. Add in all the rest and I’m picking up a vibe that homos must be protected above all else.

    FYI

Installing stainless wire balusters on stairs by yourself is a bit of jerk idea. Up and down. Up and down. Especially if you don’t buy that tool to wind in the clevice.

I got out the tape and the verniers and got it all close enough. If I had my time again i would make a set of rollers using the drill chuck on the cheap ozito. Even then there is 25mm clearance between wire and house.

    Or

Put it all together at the right dimensions on the ground, got it in position and used the come-along to finish the job. Just tension the shit out of it.

Yeah, probably would have blown up.

  79. Crazy!

    Family feuds.

I finally met my 18 year nephew today. I have never once met him since birth. The same goes along with my niece. She is 21 and I have never met her…still waiting on that.

I look back on it now and it is f*cking ridiculous.
