Potentially The New Cat – First Open Thread 31 July 2021

Hi Cats,

As you can see I have created a copy of the Cat for you to continue to bicker, argue and occasionally make a reasonable point.

I do hope a solution is found with the original Cat but just in case Sinc doesn’t want to transfer the site to a new generation I have built a replica before the closure so we can migrate as many of the community across as possible.

Programming Note: I rushed out the site so there will be bugs. I can get them fixed but did not want perfection to get in the way for progress.

Community Note: Please let as many cats know of the new blog as soon as possible so we can capture the magic of the original. In particular would love for the original posters to continue their great work here.

Ideological Note: I am an infrequent poster but long time reader of the Cat. The discussions there have been a huge part of my own ideological growth on many issues. In particular free speech is key for me so will have a very similar light touch to the original Cat, potentially adopting my one policy on an earlier forum I built: “No D***heads” which is subjective but surprisingly easy to implement.

Website Note: I will run the Cat as close to possible as the original because I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel. However if the community so wants I am happy to make changes to improve the experience so if you have any ideas let me know. For anything specific hit me up at the contact form, else go nuts in the comments.

As a follow up to the story I posted from RT:

Pelosi roasted by Democrats after claiming she led ‘relentless’ campaign to extend Covid eviction ban, blaming ‘cruel’ Republicans

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi received backlash from fellow members of the Democratic Party after she refused to take any responsibility for the House’s failure to extend the eviction moratorium, placing the blame on the Republicans.

The House failed on Friday to obtain enough support to extend the moratorium, which protects renters from eviction during the Covid-19 pandemic, leaving many Americans vulnerable to homelessness and in limbo, as the House is adjourning for nearly two months.

On Saturday, Pelosi blamed the “pure cruelty” of the Republicans for the extension’s failure and claimed that “ensuring every American has a roof overhead is a value that unites the Democratic Party” – despite the fact that the moratorium couldn’t get enough votes partially due to a sizable faction of Democrats who opposed an extension.

Had fun once, was sharing a house with 4 other Christian guys, we were mainly tech and uni students. Census night happened, so we all did our forms. Then a bird from the ABS or somewhere turned up to interview us.

She asked “in the “religious denomination” question why did you all put “Christian” and not Anglican, Catholic or whatnot?”

Whereupon she got told the Gospel five times…

The best of ‘Whisper Marketers’, though they may have a huge Social Media profile, don’t even let their nearest & dearest know what they really do, so streaks of ‘good luck’ ‘happen to them’ to explain away their improved finances/lifestyles, like ‘suddenly going viral’ on Social Media … while countless hugely talented people continue to be buried in the Internet basement.

Dot, some feedback from pro-vax bloggers on another site re CDC statement:
The main thing with this is that they want labs testing for both COVID and influenza because flu season is approaching in the US. This test only tests for COVID.</em)
So they are denying the stuff up in counting flu as Covid since testing began.
I guess that will be a common reaction.

Lizzie, the story itself contains information which shows that “hospitalised” was a misnomer. Sure, literally they went to hospital, but the husband got some asthma medication he could easily have had from the doctor and the wife would have been told to go home and rest if not for the surrounding panic.

I’ve been as bad or worse as they describe at least twice in my life – just from normal viruses like glandular fever.

Many people don’t realise how bad actual flu is, because they’ve never had it.

Thanks for that Steve. I saw another video where Peter Santenello went to a Hasidic Shabbat dinner with the same guys. Unaware that they turn on the lights before Sabbath begins, and keep them on till it concludes on Saturday evening, he went to the toilet and turned off the bathroom light when he went out. They had to ask him to turn it on again.

If I was Jooish I’d be Hasidic, I love their big furry hats.

TBH Lizzie, I don’t think the general public realise that they ARE paying for the renewables.

It’s crazy, but all too often electricity consumers don’t actually realise why their charges keep going up, nor that the subsidies propping up renewables have to be milked from the public before they can be handed out to carpetbagging entities.

Also, I don’t think the average person understands where “government money” actually comes from, that it’s either taken from them in GST, tax on their wages or borrowed.

    Kerry Packer was right.
