The decision to run from an unwinnable position – rather than retire – would entitle Christensen to a $105,000 resettlement allowance available to MPs who lose in their bid to return to Parliament. He said that was not his motivation.

But, months ago, he could still have carefully looked at the options and decided to stay in politics and join OneNation after the term ended. He could have announced his resignation from LNP and joined OneNation without the farewell.
Why does this stink?
He was looking for ways to get this resettlement allowance, a year ago.
In April, Christensen announced his decision to not contest the coming election. He later sought to be disendorsed by the LNP in order to access the $105,600 “resettlement allowance” – a move which was ultimately rejected by the party executive.
