I’d like to post more often but time constraints and there’s so much to digest out there in the real world I run out of time.

Journalists are much maligned, especially at the Çats, and often justifiably so, but I’m impressed with those that have the ability to take in multiple sources and distil them into a comprehensive and compelling narrative on a time budget.

Shout out to Rita Panahi who, writing for News, took on multiple topics and developed her craft after/while having an earlier career already in place.

Seconded, Ted. You all know I’m lurking and reading and mulling over the comments.

And the (relatively) new ones – love the contributions. A whole new flavour of thought like the gelato freezer. Hard to choose which one is best.

    Footballer down… and out.

A GREEK footballer has died aged just 21 after a cardiac arrest during a match with no defibrillator or ambulance at the stadium.

Alexandros Lampis was playing out for third-tier side Ilioupoli.

But with just five minutes on the clock, reports in his homeland say the attacking midfielder collapsed.

Tragically, there was no way to revive him on the pitch and the ambulance did not arrive on the ground for another 20 minutes.

Ilioupoli announced the sad news on their social media channels.

Translated from Greek, the club wrote: “Our Aleko, our friend, our brother, you left so unjustly.

“The whole team, the whole city is mourning today.

“The words do not come out… only an unbearable pain and a knot in the stomach. Have a good trip Alecara.”

LONDON — The Bank of England on Thursday imposed back-to-back interest rate hikes for the first time since 2004 and began the process of quantitative tightening.

Markets had broadly expected the 25 basis point rate increase, which the Monetary Policy Committee voted for unanimously and which takes the main Bank Rate to 0.5%, as the central bank strives to contain soaring inflation.

The Bank fired the starting gun on rate rises in December, hiking its main interest rate to 0.25% from its historic low of 0.1%.

Since then, data has shown U.K. inflation soared to a 30-year high in December as higher energy costs, resurgent demand and supply chain issues continued to drive up consumer prices.

The Bank of England on Thursday raised its inflation forecast to an April peak of 7.25% from the 6% projected in its December report.

    That’ll fix runaway inflation.

    Well said, TN.

My dislike of this kind of nouveau riche drivel goes back to when I first commented at Sinc’s – about ten years ago. In those days, there was a lot of boasting about diamonds, interspersed with Angela’s Ashes in western Sydney and how the brave, brilliant and beautiful heroine rose to consorting with The Highest in the Land and scored a rich husband. It was revolting, and I said so.

Thankfully, there is not a trace of this kind of vulgar, ill bred behaviour here. 🙂

PM Morrison out and about on the campaign trail visits a salon in a Labor electorate and washes a lady’s hair.
You’d have to feel uncomfortable letting a prime minister of any party or gender or age in their very dignified and important role washing your hair for a picture or actually anyone but a hairdresser etc do that personal service. Even if you don’t particularly like them or their policies, best the PM maintains the normal dignified position or am I old fashioned?

Good grief, would he be participating in other personal activities in salons. The women’s vote is obviously very important. His group of advisors said go out and do a “female” job to get the female vote, and so he did.

This is a long standing series of small items which have caught my eye or mind and which seem relevant, startling, amusing or all three. Occasionally, items which appear here may return as a longer piece. Mostly they will not.

    Passing Observations 85

    1) Word processing software, search engines, computers and the internet are all clumsy, clunky crap. If bicycles were as badly designed they’d fall apart at the first push on the pedals. Software is counter-intuitive and annoying and so difficult to use that most of it seems to have been put on the market without being finished. Search engines are commercialised and therefore unreliable and useless.

2)‘There’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path’ – The Matrix.

3)In 1945 the Government in the UK needed (and built) 750,000 new homes. If a Government today could do that it would solve the UK’s housing crisis in a year. But that was 1945 and we’ve made a lot of progress since then so everything takes a lot longer.

4)The quick way to see if a film is worth watching is to see if The Guardian newspaper has given it a good review. We never watch anything which has been praised by The Guardian.

    5) After World War II, food rationing continued in the UK until 1954. In Germany, food rationing ended with the war. And you thought Britain won?

6)‘Caring should be felt not heard’ – Sally Vickers.

    7) In France, you won’t be allowed into a restaurant if you aren’t jabbed. And if you are jabbed you will still need a negative test result too. (Presumably, because the French authorities recognise that the jabs don’t work. Who’s going to tell them that the tests don’t work either?)

    8) The world’s debt is now over $300 trillion. That is three times the world’s GDP. If interest goes to 5% the interest on the world’s debt will be $15 trillion a year.

    9) A 31-year-old man has been refused a heart transplant because he won’t allow doctors to give him the experimental, toxic covid-19 jab that doesn’t do what people think it does.

10)Fashion designer Stella McCartney took just under £2.7 million in salary in the year to the end of 2020. In the same year her business took nearly £850,000 in furlough money.
