    Way to lose.

Avi could have said that was important to get the apology from Vic Police that they were wrong and to admit their guilt. That he does not want any payout for himself. But he wants to set up a fund for future cases when journalists are wrongfully detained by the police and prevented from doing their job which is reporting news.

The fund would be independently managed and would be used to help fight future lawsuits against Vic Police.

That means Vic Police would be paying into a fund (taxpayer dollars, yes) that would be fighting cases against Vic Police. Avi could signal that he wasn’t in it for the money but the principle, and at the same time get them to pay damages.

We need to see the breakdown of excess deaths by age.
A 10% increase, could be even worse than it sounds, depending on the distribution.

At the bottom of that link (ABS) there are the numbers for age & sex.

I tried to cut n paste, but couldn’t.

The deaths are progressively worse the older you get, starting with the 45-64 group. The hardest hit are the 85 & over with Jan deaths of 6684 compared with baseline av of 4998, a 33.7% increase.

75-84 has Jan deaths of 4349 compared with baseline of 3325, a 30.8% increase.

65-74 has Jan deaths of 2450 compared with baseline of 2140, a 14.5% increase.

45-64 has Jan deaths of 1960 compared with baseline of 1790, a 9.5% increase.

    0-44 had 663 deaths compared with baseline of 686, a 3.3% decrease.

It’s probably just a coincidence that the 75 & over, who were the most highly “vaccinated”, took a big hit in deaths in the middle of summer, the “non-flu”season.
