There are everyday news stories and there are the major stories. We form opinions on them; whether it is about police tasering an elderly woman or something a politician does or the bigger ones like how one will vote on the Voice or whether global warming is a real crisis.

How do we form these opinions? Is it based on what those in our circle of family or friends say? What MSM tells us? Or do we dig in and do our research on it?

One such issue is abortion. Here is an interview with two young women.

These women considered themselves pro-abortion up till birth without even knowing how abortions are performed. After watching an abortion procedure, their minds changed.

If they could be taken away for a short period and given more evidence, it may be possible to completely unbrainwash them.

John Hinderaker at Powerline has found further evidence that AI’s make things up.

Some lawyers in New York relied on AI, in the form of ChatGPT, to help them write a brief opposing a motion to dismiss based on the statute of limitations. Chat GPT made up cases, complete with quotes and citations, to support the lawyers’ position. The presiding judge was not amused:

The Court is presented with an unprecedented circumstance. A submission filed by plaintiff’s counsel in opposition to a motion to dismiss is replete with citations to non-existent cases.
    ***
The Court begins with a more complete description of what is meant by a nonexistent or bogus opinion. In support of his position that there was tolling of the statute of limitation under the Montreal Convention by reason of a bankruptcy stay, the plaintiff’s submission leads off with a decision of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, Varghese v China South Airlines Ltd, 925 F.3d 1339 (11th Cir. 2019). Plaintiff’s counsel, in response to the Court’s Order, filed a copy of the decision, or at least an excerpt therefrom.

The Clerk of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, in response to this Court’s inquiry, has confirmed that there has been no such case before the Eleventh Circuit with a party named Vargese or Varghese at any time since 2010, i.e., the commencement of that Court’s present ECF system. He further states that the docket number appearing on the “opinion” furnished by plaintiff’s counsel, Docket No. 18-13694, is for a case captioned George Cornea v. U.S. Attorney General, et al. Neither Westlaw nor Lexis has the case, and the case found at 925 F.3d 1339 is A.D. v Azar, 925 F.3d 1291 (D.C. Cir 2019). The bogus “Varghese” decision contains internal citations and quotes, which, in turn, are non-existent….

ChatGPT came up with five other non-existent cases.

The lawyers are being asked to “show cause” why they shouldn’t be sanctioned.

Tomorrow (May 30th) was to have been the final day open for Toronto’s Anti-Capitalist cafe, but all the publicity seems to have granted it https://hotair.com/john-s-2/2023/05/22/torontos-anarchist-cafe-closing-or-is-it-n552684.

A cafe in Toronto set up by a self-described anarchist progressive announced that, sadly, it would be forced to close after just a year in existence.

It turns out an “anti-capitalist” coffee shop in Toronto that let customers pay whatever they could afford couldn’t turn a profit.

The Anarchist Cafe, which opened in April 2022, was touted as an “anti-capitalist, anti-colonial cafe, shop and radical community space on stolen land.”…

“Connecting with so many great community members, sparking desperately needed debate, raising the blood pressure of Conservatives (that includes you, ‘anarcho-capitalists’ and ‘Libertarians’), fulfilling the dream of most service workers by not having to tolerate the presence of professional class-traitors (pigs and military), and experimenting with living and working in ways that don’t enthusiastically embrace the pure misanthropy of Capitalism,” he wrote in the bittersweet message.

The good news is that the owner, Gabriel Sims-Fewer, was the cafe’s only employee so no one else would be losing a job. He blamed the closure on a lack of generational wealth after a quiet winter but plenty of people had fun with the idea that maybe his ideology had something to do with his inability to keep the doors open.

The Anarchist, which described itself as “an anti-capitalist café, shop and radical community space on stolen land at 190 Jarvis,” is shuttering its java zealotry on May 30.

Hopefully, customers do not loot the remaining pastries and torch the place…

Sims-Fewer concluded his charming farewell with: “F-k the rich. F-k the police. F-k the state. F-k the colonial death camp we call ‘Canada.’”

No word if he will apply for unemployment benefits from said death camp.

There were also some pretty harsh comments left on his Instagram page where he made the announcement. My favorite response read, “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA”

Anyway, a few days ago Sims-Fewer announced a sudden reversal of fortune. He’d secured a windfall of donations thanks to all the publicity he got about the closure.

Given that the only reason he survived 12 months was that the owner of the premises gave him 6 months of free rent, it seems unlikely that the doors will stay open much longer despite the recent donations.

Experts say this is likely to be one of the deadliest years on record on Mount Everest, with variable weather caused by climate change being blamed as one of the main reasons for the deaths of up to 17 people.

A total of 12 people have now been confirmed dead during Everest expeditions this season and another five are missing, presumed dead, as no contact has been made for at least five days in all cases, according to the Himalayan Database, which tracks mountain fatalities.

The figure was confirmed by Yuba Raj Khatiwada, the director of Nepal’s tourism department. “Altogether this year we lost 17 people on the mountain this season,” he said. “The main cause is the changing in the weather. This season the weather conditions were not favourable, it was very variable. Climate change is having a big impact in the mountains.”

It would make this year one of the worst on record for deaths on Everest, matched only by the events of 2014 when 17 died, most of whom were local sherpas killed in an avalanche.

McGowan’ legacy per a local –

A bit of local perspective. I think McGowan will take some time off. He’s got a 250K a year pension, so not like he is destitute.

Once the dust settles, and currently the reports are his Deputy got the votes to be a Premier, and the planning/infrastructure minister to get the Deputy and Treasurer roles, the WA Labor will concentrate on holding down the fort until next election.

In 2025, there are both state (March) and federal (July) elections. By then, we should have another 500K immigrants, at least, on shore. So the game becomes pander to your perceived special interest group. WA doesn’t figure into the big plan for the Big Australia, with 10% of the population, so Feds won’t be inclined to spash cash as much as in NSW or Vic.

Yet, locally, mining investment is diminishing, State investment is almost gone, the State has problems with Perth homelessness crisis, property crisis, hospital crisis, Perth Mint crisis, Banksia Hill crisis, and rumours swirling that Mark had a string of affairs.

It certainly is interesting how this plays out for the next Premier. The local news were not saturated with the new players as much as it was about McGowan.
